took a peek at the rand paul website, and was amused by the emphasis he put on his pro bono

his pro bono medical work.
so he can give free eye exams to illegal immigrants, but can't help them get proper health coverage?
does anyone else smell the hypocrisy?

(take a look for yourself: https://www.randpaul.com/about)
(or, rather, don't.)

1. Well, that's not hypocrisy.

The whole anti-goverment shtick is based on the idea that individuals will voluntarily pick up the slack when it comes to the underprivileged. By doing pro bono work, Mr Paul actually lives up to his own standards of behavior for a change.

2. I think this noblesse oblige act

is more to do with the ego rush of being amongst the noblesses rather than making serious changes which will help ppl. which repulbicans are not willing to do.

3. No debate there.

Rand Paul reeks of privilege and hypocrisy, I just don't agree that this is an example of it.

His motivations might be hypocritical -- I'm not inside his mind and wouldn't crawl there on a bet -- but the action is not.

4. you don't agree that bragging abt one's charitable works due to position of privilege

doesn't reek of privilege?
his wife's bio is all abt her fundraising activities, if that's not a rich person hobby...

7. Tell me a politician who follows Matthew 6

At any rate, that's not the question. His bragging may indicate hypocrisy, but the pro bono work does not.

10. Depends on your definition.

How you get from Matthew 6 to my age is a puzzler.

14. Fancy, smanshy.

How long does it take to Google something? You could equally argue my fondness for such references makes me a child of the Information Age, since I expect a reader to be competent to look up any reference he doesn't know. Which you obviously are, since you did.

5. Rand Paul is one of the biggest asswipes in American politics, but this is one area where I wouldn't

criticize the fucker.

11. Oh, I'd be shocked if he were sincere

I'm not the Shadow (ooops, there I go showing my age again!), but it would amaze the hell out of me to find that Mr Paul is anything other than the lowest kind of opportunist and liar.

13. Many people in public service on both sides of the aisle have a record of helping others.

Whether it is sincere or not (thinking of Paul Ryan and family washing a food bank's clean pots and pans) is debatable, but there are better avenues to criticize them.

16. interesting

it's this kind of hypocrisy (is there a better word?) which galls me most. maybe blindness-to-selfness.

6. Asshats like him always want to exaggerate their personal charity as they legislate

against anything that improves the lives of others.
