GOP Gov. Brian Sandoval Wants To Pass Biggest Tax Hike In Nevada History

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Republicans made history last election when they took control of every statewide office and both houses of the Legislature for the first time since 1929. Now, they're on the verge of leaving an even more stunning legacy by implementing the biggest tax hike in state history.

Gov. Brian Sandoval has shaped a budget plan around raising or extending $1.1 billion in taxes, and intends to funnel the new revenue into the state's low-ranking public school system.

The tax package passed the state Senate last week and is up for consideration in the more-conservative Assembly. If it passes, Sandoval could rewrite the definition of the Republican Party.

But anti-tax conservatives are furious. They say the governor is hurting the Republican brand and ruining political prospects for himself and lawmakers.

I thought "Moderate Republican" was something we only see on tombstones these days. I don't know anything about Sandoval, but it appears he wants to fund public education. Really? When most in his party are stealing money from public schools and finding ways to channel it to vouchers, charter schools, home schooling, etc. Of course, we'll have to see if the money really goes to schools, or if it gets hijacked to buy nuclear weapons for the state police.

This so called Tax Reform Deal just moves any taxes on Casino's and Mining Companies to the regular shmooes as every Republican Tax Reform does. Using a fee increase(tax)system to raise this 1.1 Billion, increases in business license fees, auto tag fees you name it fees. And,BTW,more Charter Schools for the 1%er's paid for out of the State Education Budget. Just more of the same only more of the same just gets shoved onto the Minimum Wage People. Same shit, just another day.
