Four people, including three employees of a Florida school, have now been arrested in connection with the sexual abuse of a 12-year-old student. Sixty-eight-year-old Jack R. Arons has been arrested on four counts of lewd and lascivious behavior and one count of cruelty toward a child but it has been a long road for the victim.
When the unnamed child reported the abuse to school officials in January, no phone calls were made, no reports were filed, and the girl was certainly given no measure of comfort and support. Instead, she was told that she needs to take steps to avoid enticing men to rape her.
Florida state law requires anyone who has knowledge of, or who has reason to suspect, sexual abuse to report it to the Department of Children and Families. Instead, when school administrator Kathleen McGlynn and math teacher Sharon McQueen met with the victim and her mother, they developed a safety plan that seems almost designed to protect the abuser rather than the victim.
According to the Democrat, the plan forced the victim to take her clothes into the bathroom when she takes a shower so she could change in there afterward so as to not tempt Arons. She was to begin counseling, and was ordered not to allow herself to be alone with the suspect. In addition, the child was told not to wear revealing clothing around her abuser. In addition, Arons was to avoid picking the little girl up from school.
