Is there a more creative way to ram through a bill that would create massive opposition if the details were made known is to legislate away the possibility of filibuster in advance?
While it is universally known that granting Fast Track authority prevents any amendment, it is less than universally discussed that "Fast Track" removes the possibility of filibuster as well.
This rotten bill royally deserves to be filibustered, and NOW is the ONLY time that will be an option.

(5,018 posts)he ran for US Senate he had supporters who made it clear this was the ultimate payoff someday.
I am a huge fan of Obama, worked his campaigns, would again if he could run again, but this pisses me off.

(19,537 posts)... and suggest that he announce shortly that he's running in the primary for Wyden's seat in 2016 now as a response to this.
Maybe Wyden will get the message that he needs to vote down Fast Track in the general senate vote, even if he helped get it out of committee, if he sees the strong potential price that he will pay for this "negotiation". And if other Democratic senators see him do that, maybe they will also vote down Fast Track in the general vote in the Senate too and filibuster it to keep it (Fast Track, which isn't immune from filibuster) from passing.
I just spoke to his office in Eugene at 541-465-6732. If any of you are near that area and can suggest a replacement for him to run against the notorious Art Robinson or his son if Defazio were to run for Senate, please do so, which could help encourage him to run.
Defazio has already spoken out against TPP today a short time ago.

He in my book is the best option to replace Wyden in a primary if there is a primary challenge.

(15,406 posts)Last Saturday, I traveled fifty miles to hear him speak.
He claimed he would not support the TTP unless it was "Smart Tracked" (his name for it.) Smart Track meant that he would only support it if the bill was published well ahead of the vote. (He already knew at that point that that was going to happen.)
And! BLUEBERRIES! Oregon would make lots and lots of money selling BLUEBERRIES to China.
That's it. That is why all Oregonians should love and be grateful for the TTP.
That was the 1st town hall I've attended where no one stood and clapped at the end. People were not happy.
Btw, Pete does not want to be a senator. I wanted him to run against Gordo a few terms ago. But he said he liked his district and din't want to run.

(19,537 posts)Because as has Alan Grayson has noted there are strange bedfellows of both Democrats and Republicans aligning themselves against the TPP vote. I think it has been shown that Oregon voters, both Democrats and Republicans won't be happy, and there's a good chance that Wyden will lose his seat over this. And Wyden probably won't be too bothered by this too, as I'm betting he's being promised a pretty nice revolving door seat in some company somewhere for doing what he did with the TPP.
