Where all of this war on Christmas stuff originated

15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves; 16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. 17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves. 18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine. 19 And when even was come, he went out of the city.

Mark 11:15-19

Matthew 21:12-17
English Standard Version (ESV)

Jesus Cleanses the Temple
12 And Jesus entered the temple[a] and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 13 He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”

John 2:13-16
English Standard Version (ESV)

13 The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. 15 And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. 16 And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father's house a house of trade.”

Because of the incongruous juxtaposition of the Rabbi Jesus physically attacking people and the rest of his message and the striking similarity between the Synoptic Gospels and John Biblical scholars widely consider this to be one of the most accurately retold instances in the New Testament.

You just won't hear it used as the basis for a sermon very often.

And for those who try to accumulate power, wealth or reputation by manipulating the message of the Good Rabbi Jesus and ignore the cries of the hungry, sick and imprisoned I can only add;

To all Christian DUers and those that find wisdom in the Rabbi's teaching;

Merry Christmas

To drive the moneychangers out of Washington; far too many of them have turned Congress into a den of thieves. Even Jesus might have trouble finding a big enough whip to deal with the sheer volume of crooks on the Hill and on K Street.
