13. Do you think that if ...

she were President and Congress sent her a single-payer bill, she would veto it?

Really?

14. we'll never know, so that's usually called a straw man

You might as well ask if it snows in Havana this July, will monkeys fly out of Rafael Cruz's ass.

OTOH, why did she go out of her way to declare that she's against SP? To try to capture some right wing votes? TO make sure Big Insurance will back her? Who knows?

As I mentioned in another post, the DINO's, fan club, BOG, HRC group, etc. are now convinced that Gingrinchcare is actually better than SP. This has been the absolutely most astute con job in decades. And though it has consigned the US to the bottom spot in the world for healthcare, forever, I have to admit grudging respect for those who sold it. As one of the architects sagely put it, "Americans are morons".

16. A "strawman" ... LOL ...

You said:

she already said she won't allow single payer healthcare if she's president

I asked whether she, as President, would veto a SP bill if Congress sent her one. That question isn't a strawman ...It's a direct challenge to your assertion.

As I mentioned in another post, the DINO's, fan club, BOG, HRC group, etc. are now convinced that Gingrinchcare is actually better than SP.

If you're going to refer to what the DINO's, fan club, BOG, HRC group, etc., are convinced of, get it right (unwise, it's a strawman) ... the DINO's, fan club, BOG, HRC group, etc. are convinced that the ACTUAL AND EXISTING Gingrinchcare is actually better than the NON-EXISTENT SP.

And, I would wager EVERY beneficiary of the ACTUAL AND EXISTING program would agree ... even the morons.

9. Good article

"Until 50 years ago, we had similar health systems, healthcare costs and vital statistics." But this situation ended with Canada's single-payer system, where, "all Canadians have insurance for hospital and physician services. There are no deductibles or co-pays. Most provinces also provide coverage for programs for home care, long-term care, pharmaceuticals and durable medical equipment, although there are co-pays. On the U.S. side, 46 million people have no insurance, millions are underinsured and healthcare bills bankrupt more than 1 million Americans every year." Nobody goes bankrupt in Canada to pay for needed care. Their system is shared sacrifice, not all of the downsides dumped onto the poorest and the sickest, who can't pay their bills and end up in emergency rooms until they die of needless ailments.

The Canadian doctor explained that, in that year: "Canada spends 10% of its economy on healthcare; the U.S. spends 16%. The extra 6% of GDP amounts to more than $800 billion per year. The spending gap between the two nations is almost entirely because of higher overhead."

I don't understand how this couldn't be couched in Conservative Republican terms. ie...you save tax money by organizing your healthcare insurance into one big pool instead of many pools that each have high priced executives and share holders that scoop off profits.

as a Canadian, I wish for your country one day to have the same healthcare benefits we and every other western democracy enjoys. I guess you'll have to wait awhile longer. Honestly its just not something we even think about up here. We get sick, we go to the doctor. If its serious, we get treated as far as it takes. No matter how poor, where we live, what job we have or don't have. Equal healthcare is a right, not a privilege.

15. Meh. What's 800 billion dollars? Every year?

Why fix roads or fund schools when you can give the money to insurance executives?

The country's lost its way. The Dem party in most of my lifetime has been the ones keeping it on track. They don't do that any more.

11. beats me, but this OP and the article tell me nothing I didn't already know

I would like to think that somewhere in the party there is someone who believes Americans deserve healthcare, and not insurance bills. But even if not, I am neither surprised nor gladdened by this news. What did you expect her stance on health insurance to be?

I realize that it is going to be tough to comb through the vanity threads for actual news for the next year. I will try my best to keep actual Dem ideals out of the discussions, as I get that many find them disruptive.
