All Charges Dropped Against Woman Who Vandalized Satanic Display in Florida Capitol

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2015/03/22/all-charges-dropped-against-woman-who-vandalized-satanic-display-in-florida-capitol/

Late last year, we learned that The Satanic Temple’s display in the Florida State Capitol Building had been vandalized.

It turned out that the vandal was Susan Hemeryck, a 54-year-old Tea Party activist who wore a shirt with the phrase “Catholic Warrior” on it....

Hemeryck’s trial was supposed to begin Monday, but it looks like it won’t happen anymore:...

I promise you we’d be seeing a very different result if an atheist tried to vandalize a Nativity Scene in the state capitol building.

Doesn't look like she made it off the property. Is attempted theft a crime? I really don't know. Seems like it would be very hard to prosecute "attempted theft." I would think vandalism would be the charge here. I believe she took it apart and it took someone else a couple of minutes to put it back together. Guessing nothing was broken, that is a guess. I don't see how it wouldn't rise to the level of vandalism.

and then arrested her for theft. That is what loss prevention personnel do in shops. I used to watch them nail shop lifters when I worked for JC Penney years ago. They watched the monitors and then got in place to roll them up when they stepped out of the door.

The disassembly part is where I thought it might lead to vandalism.

"I was not afraid of going to trial," she added. "I wanted the jury to know that I did not act criminally as wrongly portrayed, but a devout Catholic following the Church's teaching for non-violent and peaceful opposition of evil."
