Josh Marshall: I Don't Think It Gets Any Better Than This

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) denounces "Jews in America" who are "Democrats first and Jewish second" when it comes to supporting Benjamin Netanyahu.

It really is true that for conservatives of a certain stripe, like King, Huckabee and others, Jews are little more than a kind of yahwistic lawnjockeys, mascots for a certain type of militant defense policy and museum pieces in the historical imagination of right-wing Christianity.

to sound like a hipster. Don't bother looking it up, it is as meaningless as the gum on the bottom of your shoe, and more annoying.

More notably, it's trolling - attempting to make you think you are an idiot when the poster is just playing games.

Look at the name of the poster. Why they are still here is rather a mystery, but not a mystery about what on earth they are trying to make DUers rot their heads over - it's called trolling.

Jews are just placeholders in their uber-christian fantasy.

The Jews and Israel and the temple of something-or-other are prerequisites for the ultimate triumph of jayzus.

With less of this blood sacrifice the world is demanding of both sides, reason and not fear would prevail. Villifying them does no good, either. All it does is verify to them that those doing it wish them ill, and they balk.

Guess our best strategy is to keep pushing for Reality. Actions, in whatever way we can. And Unity.

"When the people are of one mind, they can accomplish anything."

The sickfucks are of one mind. We can counter that.

superior to them. They believe when Jesus comes back that Jews will convert and bow before God. Seems very arrogant and condescending to me.

...that did not support Netanyahu. I mean, is that not the point of any form of democracy? Or, does it mean that if I do not support a candidate who just happens to share the same religious beliefs as me, that I am putting those beliefs aside? That is such an ignorant statement that he made.

not really Jews because they didn't vote for a right-wing asshole.

Who knew supporting Netanyahu was a requirement for being a good Jew. Good thing Steve King is here to educate the world.

"It says this, they're knee-jerk supporters of the President's policy," King continued. "The President's policies throughout the Middle East have been a disaster. I would say to them, 'Name a country with which we have better relations today than we had when Barack Obama took office.' And I gave that in speeches for about six weeks until some lag stood up and said, 'I can name you two, they are Cuba and Iran.'"

OK, countries with a net improvement in opinion of USA from 2008 to 2014:

France 33%
Spain 27%
Indonesia 22%
Germany 20%
Japan 16%
Mexico 16%
Argentina 14%
United Kingdom 13%
South Korea 12%
Tanzania 10%
China 9%
South Africa 8%
Turkey 7%
Poland 5%

Net decrease:
United States -2%
Pakistan -5%
Jordan -7%
Lebanon -10%
Egypt -12%
Russia -23%

Note (a) the sizes of the 2 lists; (b) the quality of democracy in the 2 lists.

Figures for Israel's opinion of the US (not polled in 2008): http://www.pewglobal.org/database/indicator/1/country/106/
2003: 78% favorable
2007: 78%
2009: 71%
2011: 72%
2013: 83%
2014: 84%

Yes, that's right - Israel has a better opinion of the US now than at any time during Dubya's presidency. It has a better opinion of the United States than the United States.

Don't really care if you think he or I are idiots or not. And yes, for those countries that we are not attacking with drones I'm sure we look pretty good. I'm not sure I believe that Germany statistic though. I don't think they were too happy to learn we were spying on them.

Or why you think you'd be in the audience at a Republican rally?

Germany's favorable view of the USA was at 51% last year, down from 64% in 2009, but way above the 31% of 2008. Maybe you've forgotten just how bad Dubya was.
