American Family Association radio host Bryan Fischer attacked the idea of bilingualism on Friday, calling it a punishment from God, Right Wing Watch reported.
I believe Gods judgement is beginning to settle in on this land in the form of linguistic isolation, he said on his show. If youre gonna carry out any kind of project together, youve got to speak the same language. Otherwise you cant communicate. You cant even examine the same set of plans. You cant even evaluate a mission statement unless youre talking the same language.
Fischer was upset over a report saying that more than 50 percent of Los Angeles residents between the ages of 18 and 34 speak a language other than English in their homes while speaking English outside of it.
You know what this means, ladies and gentlemen we are losing the ability to talk to each other, Fischer complained. Were losing the ability to communicate with each other. And this means that were on the road to no longer being one nation under God, indivisible. No longer one nation, no longer indivisible, and in many ways no longer under God.

(21,046 posts)He must have believed that "melting pot" bullshit whereupon everyone is supposed to speak English as their first language and abandon all their culture from the non-dominant non-White Anglo-Saxon Protestant culture they came from.
Guess he's not smart enough to understand that people can speak two or even three languages and understand other people, if they want to work at it. He seems to have trouble with the concept that a non-English speaker can be an American. You can speak English and other languages too and be a NATIVE-BORN CITIZEN.
If I had someone to practice with on a regular basis, I could start thinking in Spanish all the time. I can think in short phrases and simple present-tense sentences in Spanish.
I know lots of Hispanic people who are equally fluent in English and Spanish, and they were born here.
We are not "one nation under God". We are "one nation under the Constitution". Get a grip, asshole.

(16,843 posts)think that they are the real Americans. They see the whole immigration issue as a lot like religion. It's okay for you to come from another country as long as you forget about your past and your language and start all over. They want to see a sort of born again experience. They want a full conversion to Americanism, and you can't deviate from the orthodoxy. These are the children of militant religion and media saturation. They're entire outlook on life is an ugly thing to behold.
