Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani Get Firehouse Photo Op, Immediately Unload Pizzas Onto Aide

...Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani arrived at Engine 24/ladder 5 — a firehouse on Sixth Avenue and Houston Street that lost eleven members on 9/11 — to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the death of Osama bin Laden. The presumptive GOP presidential nominee and his former critic emerged from a black SUV bearing gifts for some of New York's bravest: six boxes of fresh pizza, which Romney and Giuliani personally lugged into the firehouse as a gaggle of photographers, cordoned off at a safe distance, snapped away. Moments later, the photo op complete and the press pool (mostly!) out of sight, Romney and Giuliani unloaded all six pizzas into the arms of an aide.

1. At least Bush actually waded into the midst of a bunch of troops with his plastic turkey.

In Iraq, no less. The quality of GOP photo-ops has really gone downhill.

2. Mitt is going to lose in a landslide but I feel I could pick up some good $

doing some advance work and "handling" for him. What a klutz the candidate
hands out the food him or herself.

14. The suit is better because he is who he is and the jeans w/ oxford shirt thing ...

... turned even republicans off but the point was to be seen eating pizza and
yucking it up w/ the fire fighters so the pizza hand off in front of cameras
was just stupid. Other candidates would have passed off the pies but not
where cameras could see them doing it.

3. Campaigning in NY?

I thought Romney was supposed to be a wise businessman. Talk about a waste of resources. But hey, more power to ya, Will.

Ghoulianni would be a lot of fun.

The man does not like Romney or Guiliani - has said he would shut down the website if either man was nominated.

he's using New York firefighters as campaign props.

I understand that was his "go to" recipe in his college years...!

6. Well you don't expect him to actually talk to the firemen do you?

He doesn't talk to people like them, he hires them.

No, actually he fires them.

Wait that's not true either. He hires people who fire people like the firemen for him.

Or somethin'.

7. The comments at that link are a scream!!!!

TRIPLEOPTION
"Oh, heavens. I got some sauce on my white button down. Do you think one of these negroes would mind washing it for me?"
—Mitt Romney

KTINNYC
Mitt to the firemen; ""I'm not sure about this pizza. They don't look like you made them. No, no. They came from the local Godfather's, or whatever."

OPHELIA1999
Jesus, even the pizza gets to ride in the car. Poor Seamus.

8. lol, those are funny

someone shouted at Mitt yesterday when they picked up the pizzas - shouted a warning not to put them on the car's roof.

And, notice, not one firefighter appeared outside with them in their photo-op. Very telling.

9. Why bring pizza to firemen? They cook like kings! Isn't this firehouse a finalist in the Rachel

Ray cook-off for firemen every year? Those guys make restaurant quality meals for themselves!

I mean, hell, donuts to policemen, sure--but pizza to firemen is like coals to Newcastle. That'll probably be the worst meal they've had in years...

lugged in several bags of groceries to fill House pantry.

Two operative words 'smart' & 'cared'.

15. I'm also wondering about the whole thing

I understand the fire house lost some personnel in the 9/11 attacks more than a decade ago. What connection does that have to the anniversary of snuffing bin Laden last year?

This is very odd. No, I get it,the connection...bin laden, al-queda, 9/11....but this is the weirdest photo op I've ever heard of.

20. Giuliani continues to polish his acting skills

During 9-11, he walked around with hunched shoulders as though carrying a heavy burden and issued commands to people out of the camera's field of vision who weren't even there, in an effort to look busy and important. Acting is his major talent in life.
