Unemployment Rate Falls to 5.5%

The U.S. economy added 295,000 workers to payrolls in February and the U.S. unemployment rate fell to 5.5%, Bloomberg reports.

“The median forecast in a Bloomberg survey of 96 economists projected employment would rise by 235,000… The jobless rate was projected to drop to 5.6% from January’s 5.7%.”

are joining the work force? I don't see how someone can take it in a negative light no matter what happens.

I guess my biggest issue is what I see going on around me compared to what some pencil pusher in Washington is saying is the truth.

I am employed by a Fortune 50 company. When I hired in 2004, 110 men did the same job I did. Now we have 58. We haven't hired new employees in 3 years and we have no intention to hire any this year either.
In the 10 years I have been there the WORST quarter we have had was in 2008, remember that year?, and our profit was ONLY $198 Million for a quarter. We are moving as much product as ever with around half the employees.
We could use AT LEAST 40 more people to help, unfortunately, profit and shareholders come first.

In my hometown we have had 2 company's close up shop and move. These company's were good paying jobs with benefits. For a small town 350 people are now unemployed with no real chance at something paying a decent wage.

If jobs paying people low wages with little benefits and no real chance at owning a home, a new car and the ability to pay their bills without stress excites the people posting here, I feel for those Individuals. However, I do not agree with them.

This is nothing against you personally treestar. You asked do I celebrate when people join the workforce. I absolutely do, provided, it pay's a wage they can survive on. If 300,000 people get a job paying $8/hr, I'm sorry, that just means 300,000 just joined the poverty rolls.

K&R; these numbers improving is good news no matter how people want to argue about them.

Last month it was 11.3%. It too has been falling steadily - it used to be at 17%.

It's still elevated compared to historical good levels, but the trend is good.

I am a believer in the current political trajectory.

I make a very good living, haven't had to actively look for a job since I was early 20's, my 401K and other investments have NEVER done as well as they have under Obama, and I have no reason to believe he will turn his back on Wall Street now, so happy happy joy joy for me.

The unemployment rate is %5.5 (who cares if that's bullshit in reality) the rest of the country needs to zip it about the reality of the TRUE unemployed. I'm alright, and as long as I vote Democrat....I've done my part. I love this thought process .....I know this is a fantasy number that means nothing ....BUT UNEMPLOYMENT IS 5.5 ........... you unemployed are just fine, look at the number again.

Shit I might even support Clinton over Sanders because lets be honest, Clinton will take care of wall street...and wall street takes care of me. Those that are suffering but not counted, .... stay on the sideline before you negatively affect the next election.

And here is the cherry, if the Democrats lose the white house, and republicans control everything,..... shit man - that will be the money shot for me, because as much as the suffering are ignored now, wait till a republican gets back in. I'll turn 52 at the end of the next presidency term, all I need is for the next president to screw everyone one more term, and I'll be looking at 55 and retired pretty comfortably.
