Why does a government employee like a sheriff have no health insurance?

This whole thing makes no sense. Typically, policemen and firefighters have very good insurance and disability due to the dangerous nature of their jobs. I can't believe that during his entire career as a sheriff that he didn't have health insurance provided by the government. What on earth was he planning to do if he got shot and ended up in intensive care?

He actually cancelled his existing policy provided by his local government because he was annoyed at the ACA? He didn't go to the insurance companies and self insure directly without using the state exchange? What's the story on his wife not carrying an insurance policy? He didn't try and hook up with one of those Christian health cost sharing groups where people send donations to each other? If he got shot in the line of duty and crippled what was the plan?

donations - and we still aren't certain whether he plans on using the donations on medical bills since Republican-RWers can't be trusted on anything they say when it comes to large sums of money - on the other hand, doesn't appear to conflict with this deluded man's "principles".

Then 8 years as an elected sheriff. So why didn't he work 2 more years in law enforcement and get the pension and retirement health care? Police officers often retire early, so why not do your time and collect your bennies, like lots of RWers?

Why run off and do all this advocacy? Unpaid or without benefits??? He's a big guy and I'm sure his chloresterol and BP were up, so his doctor was telling him a heart attack was in the cards....
So with these health conditions in the background, he decided to roll the dice? He was getting annual physicals in law enforcement, so he wasn't ignorant. Heart attacks rarely rise up out of nowhere.

If he's well connected enough to raise money and get elected office, why didn't his buds get him a job in law enforcement.

Something is weird.

8. Is "Obamacare-hater" a thing? One can dislike the ACA for its many flaws

without being labeled a "hater"--as if there was some kind of discrimination thing going on here.

The bill was poorly written (mostly to avoid the GAO deciding it was a tax) and HHS regulations are continually changing. It truly is a fiasco. Meanwhile, the insurance companies are getting very fat--especially the ones that have the inside track like Anthem (who actually had one of their people write the Senate bill).

So one could choose not to get on the ACA for a lot of good reasons:

1. The regulations keep changing
2. Personal data was being sold
3. States like Oregon shut down their exchanges
4. Consumers are getting the wrong tax information from the ACA

Etc.

This isn't "hating": this is a logical decision to wait and see what happens as the ACA works out its numerous wrinkles.

11. Well, that's not illogical either, if you've ever dealt with the IRS

And the IRS is an integral part of the ACA, judging people's insurance policies and collecting fines.

The long and short of it is that that there are many reasons people want to avoid dealing with the Federal Government for life processes, like health care. I have a philosophical problem with the marriage of government and private insurance companies. I believe this "beast with two backs" brings out the worst in both. You either have Medicare for all or a private system, but not a hybrid that sucks in money like a vacuum cleaner. To me, the ACA represents all the graft and corruption of crony capitalism and the citizen loses.

Does that make me an Obamacare "hater"? Or do I have logical or philosophical reasons for my dislike of the ACA?
