Now if I don't lose my power, I will be one happy camper!
Stay safe everyone. Be careful shoveling, take it slow and easy~

(6,384 posts)I'm not in the big danger zone or the coast, but the loss of power/heat is always worrying. I'll enjoy the snow until that happens.

(1,352 posts)... since we got the piped-in, auto-switch-over generator connected to my 500 gallon LP tank.
There have been storms where we're the only "electronics recharging, flushing toilets, OMG hot water" station around. For days.
Now, if my 400'+ driveway could be guaranteed plowed clear all the time so I never felt trapped, I'd be golden.

(7,468 posts)Don't know how to cope with frozen pipes because of no heat. OK, I'm upset. Nothing I can do but worry. Eighty miles an hour winds, 2 to 3 feet of snow. Yikes, I'm an old timer who needs to be shoveled out and has no idea how to cope with zero degrees, 3 feet of snow and no heat.
My kitty and I will curl up on the couch and hope for the best. It's the pipes folks, just the pipes!
DeadLetterOffice
(1,352 posts)You can either turn on all your taps to a very slow trickle so they don't freeze, or shut off the water at the main valve and open all the taps to let any water still in the pipes flow out. It's no guarantee, but either option will reduce the chances of water freezing in the pipes and causing calamity.

(83,355 posts)Layer and bundle. I am use to the cold, my heat is always low because I can't afford more. I am getting up there in age. I rent yet I still have to clear my stairs. I do it carefully so I don't fall.
Please stay safe. Do as the other poster said. Open the taps to a trickle. Running faucets should not freeze.
Be well. Be safe.

(50,130 posts)I hope you have a fireplace. I hope your phone is working if you have to call for help. Maybe it's time in your life to let a room to someone who can help out and be useful -- something to think about.
Keep us posted. I'm sure the wind is howling on the Cape. Stay safe.

(15,784 posts)Even those of us out here on the plains get snow in winter, it doesn't just snow in the mountains. We're sometimes dry, but in my 67 years I've not seen this. Weird.

(83,355 posts)There is no such thing as climate change.
The brightest and best told me so.
U.S. Senate voted 4 times in 2 days to deny existence of manmade global warming
One senator, Roger Wicker of Mississippi, found even that amendment's watered-down language went too far. The amendment did not say what is causing the recent spike in global temperatures, with 2014 becoming the warmest year on Earth since record-keeping began in 1880, and very likely the warmest year in at least 4,000 years.

(40,416 posts)I raise you with Mel Torme and Judy.
Check, call, or raise?
Oopsie! Search for "Let it Snow", get "Christmas Song". I think I'd better fold my hand.
Stay safe, my friend. Find somebody to cuddle with.
Of course, there's always Captain Picard as a raise:
