Boehner and McConnell Bomb On 60 Minutes When Asked For GOP Alternative to Obamacare

Speaker of the House John Boehner and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell delivered a disastrous appearance on 60 Minutes, the lowlight of which was their complete inability to discuss the Republican alternative to Obamacare.

Speaker Boehner went on a dodge and weave filibuster when asked what the Republican alternative to Obamacare was, ďProviding more access we could have done without taking control of the entire healthcare system. When you look at Obamacare, itís a perfect example of what Washington does. Itís a one size fits all approach for the whole country all driven by Washington bureaucrats. Iíll bet theyíve hired tens of thousands of people between the IRS and over at Health and Human Services just to run this. All of the decisions, all of the rules decided by Washington. We have a wide, diverse country, and I just think itís time for us to look at this differently. For those who donít have access to affordable health insurance. Helping those at the bottom I think weíre all for it, but we donít need Washington to ruin the greatest health delivery system that the world has ever known.Ē

CBSís Scott Pelley asked again, ďSo how do you do it? Whatís the Republican plan?Ē Boehner answered with a weak, ďWeíre, Weíre working on this. Having discussions amongst our members, got a lot of divergent views about how best to go back to a doctor/patient relationship thatís revered.Ē

Pelley kept hammering away and said that this is one of the biggest criticisms of the Republican Party is that they know what they are against, but canít tell people what they are for. McConnell said that Pelley was mischaracterizing the success of Obamacare and claimed that the ACA will fail. McConnell said that the chances, of getting rid of Obamacare with Obama in the White House, were slim, but that Republicans were going to make the effort.

2. Alan Grayson already leaked the Republican alternative to the ACA.

"Don't get sick"
and "If you do get sick, die quickly!"

All the Republicans really care about is the .9% tax on high incomes for Medicare, and the extra 3.8% capital gains tax on high incomes. That's why it has to be repealed 'root and branch'.

34. That's basically it. The GOP is NOT wired to think about doing things to help people.

They're all about money, greed, and entitlement, and pulling up the ladder behind them after they've used it to climb up to higher levels - so YOU can't follow and get some, too. They just aren't wired to think about helping others. They're simply not. It's not what they're about. At least not anymore.

But lousy when it comes to solving problems.

Republicans -- we don't need them. And I don't want them.

35. Remember, too, these are the same nice folks who declared, after the Supreme Court gutted

the Civil Rights Act - "don't worry - we'll fix it. Some of those things that were taken out, we can put them back in..." And blah-blah-blah.

So guess what happened when they got into positions to be able to do that?

"Oh, no, not now - we've gotta deal with abortion! Later maybe... well, NEVER MIND. Move along! Nothing to see here! Um - what did you say your problem was?"

What I REALLY hate is all those gullible idiots who believe the first part. And trust them. And fall for it. And KEEP falling for it, election cycle after election cycle! And are just SURE they'll be true to their word and fix it and try to help people. Doesn't anyone keep track? Doesn't anyone pay attention? Doesn't anyone LEARN???? Election cycle after election cycle the voters fall for it. Again and again. They never get it.

These republi-CONS are the "other priorities" people. Just like their pal the dick cheney.

They're the "IGMFU" people. "I-Got-Mine, F-U!"

They're the "Sucks to be You" people. They don't want to help you. They figure they're not there to help you, in the first place. In their philosophy, YOU are on your own.

That "personal responsibility" stuff. That alleged "get the government off your back" stuff. It's all a load of bullshit. It's just fancy talk for SCREW YOU - you're not rich so who needs YOU? Go away and figure it out for yourself. I don't want to help you and who says I have to? As their hero Cain (the one they REALLY worship, after all) once said - "Am I my brother's keeper"? They'd rather not have to bother with you anyway. You're just in the way. Your sniveling little "needs" and "problems" take time away from their need to fellate and otherwise service the super-rich.

12. The ACA was passed in March 2010, and the Republicans don't have an alternative

proposal for that plan yet. It's 2015. That's five years.

If Republicans can't work faster than that, they are just incompetent. Why are they even considered to be a plausible political party.

Five years of negativity and nothing to show for it.

And if they bring in a proposal next month or next year, it will be ridiculously late.

How many people would have died this past year were it not for the ACA?

I'm betting lots. The ACA makes it possible for people who otherwise would not be able to afford the health care they need but who have chronic health conditions to see a doctor, get treatment, advice on healthy living and live longer.

Republicans = negativity not solutions.

25. Well put

There is no alternative except to "die quickly". The lack of compassion on the part of the Republicans is something they need to be nailed for harder. ANYONE in congress who voted for repealing Obamacare, tie the vote around their neck and bury them for doing so. Let people know these so called "deficit hawks" are the ones who actually want to INCREASE the deficit. Hit them, bury the, hit them, bury them, hit them, bury them!!!

The whole "government takeover" is a fiction too and they know it.

Hell, I've heard some RW radio talkers claim the ACA is the Republican response to "Obamacare" and we should thank them for preventing the Commies from having their evil "Death Panels".

29. There is an easy way to have the revered docter/patient visit

Subsidize it. I really don't see how any of the claims he makes counters any of it. The biggest changes were expanding coverage & how it covering more rather than less when it comes to "preexisting conditions" and a mandate to purchase from private insurers.

Though the private insurance industry isn't that diverse, people that aren't on an employee health plan experience the squeeze from the monopoly. Usually a state just has Blue Cross or Blue Shield if they have more than 1.

32. That's when I stopped watching

The last hard hitting news story that made a deep impression on me was " American Soldier Beaten at Gitmo ". A soldier volunteered to wear an orange jumpsuit and a hood at the request of an officer. Then the was put in a room and declared uncooperative. He was beaten senseless and left with a seizure disorder. Then denied compensation or care. It may still be on Google.

I have often used that story as a reason to close that hellhole.
