Rand Paul steps up the GOP attack on Social Security

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), warm and secure in the Senate, tells disability recipients they should get up and move around.

The most cynical aspect of this attack is that it comes from some lawmakers who were helped by Social Security in their own lives. The roster includes Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who received Social Security benefits during his college years, after his father's untimely death, and now thinks that the nation can't afford to keep paying them as currently scheduled.

Another is Rep. Tom Reed (R-N.Y.), the sponsor of the House rules change, whose father died when he was 2 and then was raised by a single mother on Social Security and veterans benefits. Now he talks about Social Security going "bankrupt," which is flatly incorrect, and promotes a measure aimed at cutting benefits for all. This is known as climbing the ladder and pulling it up behind you. If Reed, Ryan and Paul get their way, the only option left to the rest of us will be to hold tight.

it is time for Ryan and Reed to pay the government back for the investment that was made--with interest!

But the Republicans have trouble discerning between an entitlement, which is something that people are actually qualified to receive, and a handout, which is what Republicans like to receive from their corporate backers.

Fuck no I won't hold tight! I'm sixty years old but I will not put up with this. I'll fight by demonstrating until I won't be able to. Enough is enough! We can't just sit idly by while our benefits are taken away one at a time. If we let this slide, they'll know they got away with it and they'll cut SS completely. Then our pensions will be next. They won't quit unless we do something, anything to let them know we won't put up with this shit.

Generations depend on our generation for their survival.

I still have the sixties spirit in me burning. Let's not hold on tight and take it lying down.

you can figure out how many people think they have a chance at that dream.

We've become a nation of unempathic, me first, greedy people. It's sad. Very sad.
