Army commanders order removal of 'God and country' recruiting sign

This is welcome news:

Army commanders order removal of 'God and country' recruiting sign

An Army recruiting station has been ordered by higher ups to shelve a sidewalk sandwich board with the wording "On a mission for both God and country.”

The order went out Friday to a recruiting station in Phoenix that had been displaying the outdoor sign since at least October. The sign board also shows an image of a Special Forces patch and Ranger, Airborne and Special Forces tabs.

An inquiry from Army Times to the U.S. Army Recruiting Command prompted the sandwich board’s immediate removal.

The command’s spokesman told the paper the sign’s text was changed by “local recruiting personnel” but without clearance from command headquarters.

I don't quote anything from Army Times, but the link is very welcome.

I prefer to drive traffic to Army Times and respect their interpretation of copyright.

Army Recruiting Command is investigating who ordered and/or approved the display, Lepley said.

"The Military Religious Freedom Foundation is delighted that the Constitution has been adhered to by the U.S. Army Recruiting Command," Weinstein said after the poster was removed. "But whoever, in any way, shape or form, allowed that poster to be designed, prepared and displayed, those individuals should be aggressively investigated and very visibly punished."

Good for Army Times and their push to have the sign removed.

Either go to services on Sunday, or go on cleanup detail.

Basically, accept punishment or attend church.

Ah well....

9. That was the very same choice we had in basic training in 2005

though cleanup detail was cleaning the barracks and depending on the Drill Sergeant on duty was varied in how clean things had to be.

12. I choose the church option most of the time (also varied my selections)

but occasionally there would be someone there to enforce the "no sleeping" requirement Drill Sergeants had when it came to the church option.

I did three weeks each, Protestant, Catholic, and punishment detail.

Punishment detail was the best, IMO.
