There are almost certainly going to be more murders just like the Charlie Hebdo ones.
The attack on Charlie Hebdo was not just entirely predictable, it was predicted.
The victims new that they were likely to be targed, and had hired bodyguards; unfortunately the bodyguards were murdered too.
What this demonstrates is that "predictable" does not mean "preventable".
What is also entirely predictable is that
1) Journalists and cartoonists across the Western world and beyond will, quite rightly, respond to this attack on their right to insult Mohammed by doing just that.
2) Some of them will be murdered for doing so.
In general I do not like the word "martyr" - it has too much baggage - but in this case I think it's probably appropriate.
And, sadly, these will not be the last.
There may come a day when it is possible to insult Mohammed safely, and consequently it's no longer so necessary to do so. But I don't expect it to be soon.
