in an area with frequent muggings. It doesn't mean that I deserved to be victimized, only that a bad choice increased my chances of being victimized. If I knew that the area was dangerous and choose to walk there anyway, it would be a calculated risk. Everyone since Salman Rushdie has known that there is risk in publishing some writings...

I guess the Dixie Chicks should have known the situation when they spoke out?

And why did that Dr. King stir up so much trouble, huh?

Dr.King....ffs. ..Dr.King knew he was increasing his chances of being victimized, his mission made the calculated risk worth taking to Dr. King. When Dr.King was killed people were sad, mad, and shocked. ...few were surprised

What part of what I wrote is incorrect. ..feel free to quote me. ..

You used an analogy that I rejected.
I do not think they brought this on themselves by acting carelessly. I guess you do.
I guess we shouldn't have supported Israel or interfered in the Middle East, because 9/11 was an expected result.

Fact remains, you're more likely to be a crime victim in certain areas, or by hanging around certain crowds.

And you're more likely to be assaulted by someone if you insult them. That's how life works.

I haven't the foggiest what that means. I do know that anyone who publishes cartoons, stories or other writings portraying Mohammed in a negative light knows that they may become a target for doing it. If they don't they haven't been paying attention.

They brought it on themselves

Life is full of risk

Just about everything we do holds risk

We could chop a finger off carving the Thanksgiving turkey

We could get hit by a bus while crossing a busy street

We could piss off a bully in a bar and he could punch us in the face

We could choke on a hunk of meat and die

All sorts of things could happen. We accept these risks

So if someone insults someone else's deity, don't be all surprised when the insulted believers retaliate. That's just how life goes

The cartoonist had the freedom to draw that picture. I also have the freedom to encourage love and tolerance over fear and hate.

A Jewish lawyer fought and won for the infamous KKK rally in Skokie; that man should be one of the most revered heroes of freedom in history.
