A lot of republican voters remind me of Samuel Jackson in Django Unchained

Having just rewatched the movie this occurred to me.

They don't mind being slaves, or even the system of slavery, as long as they think the master will give them a leg up over the other slaves.

I think you're right, but I also think that authoritarianism is a creation of patriarchal culture, and not not a fundamental human psychological attribute. Some other cultures do not buy the patriarchal model. Many native American tribes as well as the structure of Occupy come to mind as counterexamples.

Patriarchy is one of the thing we need to eventually eliminate as a pernicious foundational element in our culture.
