(113,131 posts)The only people they see are their personal assistants and money managers, which is why those professions are highly paid.
Everyone else is largely invisible. They think trash cans are chutes to another dimension, that food pops into existence by itself, that their clothing is sewn up by the designer, personally, and that everything in their home(s) is self repairing. If they're dimly aware of our existence, they think we should be grateful to serve them and those of us who aren't grateful should be heavily controlled so we never pose a threat.
They're that utterly clueless about everything outside their personal space. Oh, they're affable and generous enough (as long as they decide what to give whom), but anyone who attempts to educate them about anything outside their presence gets shown the door quickly. They're clueless because they like it that way.
It's not just the 1%, either. Ask any comfortable middle class person who has been ranting about Walmart workers sucking up food stamps and Medicaid for their kids to do a family budget based on eight bucks an hour and you'll meet with one hell of a lot of resistance. They really do think that there are $100/month apartments out there and that the ER is free and will do their surgeries and provide chemotherapy.
Yes, I've rubbed elbows with the 1% back when I was young and cute and had a reputation as a wit. I enjoyed a glimpse into that world but ultimately, they bored me to death and I wandered off in search of stimulation that didn't come from things.

(14,000 posts)The police will protect them.
The police always side with the rich.
It will be quite a show when the 1% go after their pensions, unions, and wages.
We could have advanced many progressives ideas and laws if the police had been on the side of the protesters over the years.
This is not by accident, but by design.

Hey, apparently the 1% have problems of their own, in that they don't feel all that financially secure.
They need MORE $$$$$$$$!

(23,156 posts)don't get it.
They don't get how truly vast the gap is even between the top 5% and the 1%.
They don't get that they will never rise to that level financially.
They think that the reason they don't have much is because of the "welfare queens", not getting it that the true welfare queens are the corporations.
They don't get it that unions are at the core of why the middle and working classes in this country ever did well, and that the destruction of the unions has gone hand in hand with the destruction of the middle and working classes.
In short, most people out there simply don't get it.
