Holy Shit: No. 3 House Republican Spoke To White Supremacist Group

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise Spoke At White Supremacist Conference In 2002

Twelve years before he was elected by his colleagues as House Majority Whip, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) spoke at a conference hosted by white supremacist group European-American Unity and Rights Organization.

Louisiana political blogger Lamar White Jr. dug up a number of posts on Stormfront, one of the original white supremacist websites, that place Scalise at the 2002 gathering. According to one user who attended the conference, Scalise -- then a state representative -- spoke to the organization at a workshop "to teach the most effective and up-to-date methods of civil rights and heritage related activism."

According to another Stormfront post, the National/International EURO Workshop on Civil Rights was held from May 17 to 18, 2002, at the Landmark/Best Western Hotel in Metairie, Louisiana. The conference was also listed on an Anti-Defamation League list of extremist events for that year.

1. More surprising is the fact that the media discover just now that Scalise spoke

in front of these types of groups and is trying to say that he ignored Duke was a white supremacist.

The sad part is that it will probably not hurt him.

5. The Republican Party is a white supremacist organization

There's not much ideological difference between the GOP and the KKK

6. Big surprise.

It seems like every couple years it comes out the repig house leadership rubs elbows with or belongs to white supremacist groups.

I remember when it came out Trent Lot was a member of the "uptown klan" (can't remember the official name of the group). I seemed like every couple years one or two would be exposed then have to quit the group deny knowing it was a klan outfit.

13. "Council of Conservative Citizens"

Started by the guys who used to run the "White Citizens' Councils."

And Lott made that speech at Strom Thurmond's 159th birthday (well, he looked that old,) where he said we wouldn't have had all those problems if white-supremacist Thurmond had won, not Truman.

10. Just shoring up his base.

Katrina did what the ReThugs in that state wanted it to do. Drive out urban blacks and turn it into Alabama/Missisippi.
