(25,348 posts)...even name the vice-president. Not when most people think we spend over 25 % on foreign aid. It's actually less than 1 %.
I'll give it all I got but it's a steep hill.

(14,255 posts)He would like to run for President.
He is one Senator, he needs backing and support. Not many in Washington are even willing to go on record saying these things, too afraid to discomfort their owners.
Here is a list of bills he has sponsored, votes he has cast, committees he is on.
Just one person in Congress cannot do anything on their own but introduce bills and at least speak out on the issues.
We are always being told that Obama cannot do much as a president, how much do you think one senator can do?

(82,383 posts)And nothing gets done. So Senators are powerless? They can't do anything? I thought they had to have the President guide them and force them to vote for things. After all, we are told the president is all powerful. If Bernie would become President (why hasn't he bothered until now) these bills would get passed on both houses of Congress, right, because he's a real, real good leader and Congress will bow down to him.

(45,274 posts)Bernie is putting out the essential truths in clear and unmistakable language. And, as another has pointed out, Bernie has been a very effective Senator. He is on major committees where he has made a huge difference behind the scenes in addition to what is obvious from his voting and legislative proposals.

(82,383 posts)And with Bernie in Congress, it seems that Bernie could have gotten the public option through so President Obama could sign it. I know President Obama is weak and compromising and all, but if Bernie had exerted his powers, that would never have shown, because the Senate would have passed the bill with the public option.

Now if he would run for the WH he could do it for all of the people and I believe he would.

(82,383 posts)by convincing the rest of the Senate to go along with the good things. If as President he could do it, he could do it now. Why didn't he get them all to vote for the public option, including Lieberman? I mean, he's such a great leader and all. He has the chance. Instead of voting for the ACA, he should have gotten them to vote for the public option bill the House passed.
