I think the Ferguson "verdict" has been reached, BUT

the powers that be are waiting for sufficiently awful weather to release it to the public.

On a cold, sleety, rainy, windy day, they will officially notify everyone, knowing that bad weather will thin the crowd.

1. I don't, because it is not really possible to subvert a grand jury that way

These people have been sitting for months hearing evidence, and it wouldn't surprise me that it took a while for them to make their decision.

21. Illegal leaks.

The grand jury was subverted in the beginning when leaks started. The leaks haven't stopped since.

That makes this an illegitimate grand jury and no decision by such a subverted grand jury can be considered legitimate.

we should consider that illegitimate?

24. This grand jury should have been removed and replaced.

If you think there is even a remote chance Wilson will be indicted, you're naive.

27. Leaks in favor of Wilson, and the jury is allowed to follow the media. Bad combo.

I wonder if they saw pics of him with no injuries and decided he overplayed his hand about getting beat in the car.
I bet he had a very rehearsed reenactment to share with the GJ. That COULD cast a shadow over OW, and make people think he should show that to a real jury in court.

4. Is there a law that determines how soon after, the result has to be released?

If the result is only required to be released to the prosecutor's office, the ball is then in their court as to when they tell the rest of us..

The jurors are not supposed to talk about their service, so they cannot cay anything...and this being Thanksgiving week, it would be understandable if they did not meet this week, so I would not be surprised if the prosecutor sat on it for a while until HE thinks it's the "best" time..

9. Perhaps they are just waiting

for arrangements to be made to have federal law providing them with protective custody.
If they DO indict the cop, then the rest of the police will want to come after them, BUT, if
they don't indict him, the citizens may want to come after them. They can't win this one no matter which way they decide.
Personally, I hope they indict him.

So they certainly could have reached a decision on Friday. If they did, we could hear something later this afternoon.

17. What do you base your opinion on that the GJ has reached a decision? CNN

was reporting last night that the GJ had not reached a decision yet and would resume deliberations on Monday:

http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/22/us/ferguson-grand-jury-five-things/index.html?hpt=hp_c2

Have there been newer developments to sugget the GJ actually did reach a decision already?

33. Since they meet in secret, once they decide, I would assume that the prosecutor

takes it from there.. They did release info that there would probably be NO DETAILS if there is no indictment, so that will piss everyone off..

If there's a 48 hr hold, it makes sense to say they are meeting on Monday..

they officially turn in the paperwork at the end of Monday..The prosecutor gets it on Tuesday..He peruses for a day and the 48 hrs winds up being Thurs or Fri..

34. Oh, I see where you're coming from now. The GJ may have reached its

decision already but not formulated it (in the form of 'paperwork').

If your supposition is correct, I really think they're playing with matches trying to psyops residents and assuming that Thanksgiving is going to temper the masses' fury. (The implicit assumption is that people care more about their Thanksgiving holiday than they do about justice for Michael Brown; that's a disgusting assumption under any circumstances, but not surprising, given the culture of white supremacy that dominates there).

By the way, two ADAs are presenting the evidence and witnesses to the Grand Jury, one white and one black (Kathi Alidzeh and Sheila Whirley, respectively). Between the two, they have a combined 30 years' experience prosecuting cases.

18. There's no requirement that results be

released within a certain number of hours of decision. In fact, I believe if there's an indictment, it's probably to remain sealed until the indicted person is in custody. Caveat on that - That may vary by jurisdiction, and I'm not very familiar with that jurisdiction.

Also, I believe I read the prosecutor said he'd try to get the details released publicly of the testimony and other evidence presented to the grand jury. If there's an indictment, he will not do that because it will come out at trial. If there is no indictment, he has to ask the court to order the release, and that is not something that happens instantly.

Thanksgiving distractions
I don't know if they are ready but I have long been convinced that it will be released just before Thanksgiving with enough time for folks to go home for the holidays or go shopping. At first I said the day before Thanksgiving but now I'm thinking tomorrow or Tuesday.

Response to malaise (Reply #25)

Sun Nov 23, 2014, 01:00 PM

28. Bingo.

Remember that the Government removed Elian Gonzalez on Easter Sunday. The holiday means that people start thinking family and traditions instead of whatever social injustice is going on. Even during World War One the troops on the opposing sides declared a unilateral truce that was not authorized nor condoned by higher authority.

At the first light of dawn on Christmas Day, some German soldiers emerged from their trenches and approached the Allied lines across no-man’s-land, calling out “Merry Christmas” in their enemies’ native tongues. At first, the Allied soldiers feared it was a trick, but seeing the Germans unarmed they climbed out of their trenches and shook hands with the enemy soldiers. The men exchanged presents of cigarettes and plum puddings and sang carols and songs. There was even a documented case of soldiers from opposing sides playing a good-natured game of soccer.

So the idea that the authorities are planning on using the Holidays to their advantage is pretty much a given in my mind.

The weather is a bonus, it's cold and wet and that is not protesting weather, it works to the advantage of the authorities. If the people try and start fires in trash cans to stay warm, the fires will be put out and the people told to move along or risk arrest for arson or some such trumped up crap.

What the Authority folks don't realize, even if you manage to blunt this protest, you still increase the heat in the simmering discontent. By leaving the lid on the pot, it will get hotter, and sooner or later come to a raging boil.

29. They will release it just as Walmart is opening

on Black Friday or Black Thursday or Black Wednesday-night-at-midnite. That's where all the people of Ferguson will be - at the nearest Walmart. The stores will shut off all the TVs or just show a DVD of Dumb and Dumber.
