Will they start quarantining abusers and the mentally ill?

After all, the first most likely will be a threat to someone in the near future and the second just might. So let's make them stay home to keep the public safe!

I am wondering if others have considered the larger impacts of the "detain 'til they can prove they aren't a threat" quarantines.

Thoughts?

6. They are quarantining non-contagious people now.

Because they're scared. Just like 1942 America was with the Japanese living in California...

7. They are quarantining people who have been treating Ebola patients in Africa

The quarantine lasts until the incubation period is passed and the person is determined to not have Ebola. Waiting until such a person becomes symptomatic before a quarantine or trusting them to self-monitor and self-quarantine is not a prudent approach.

10. That is no longer the criterion that is being applied, so it's a moot point.

12. So they can quarantine anybody for anything?

What's that smell? Smells like Fascism.

13. From the little I've read so far, you can be quarantined based on the potential that you are sick...

...even if you are not yet showing symptoms. It smells like protecting public health to me.

14. Ah, the myriad of crap excuses that could be used in the name of public health...

Why not quarantine all the people with colds on election day? That's contagious. You know - public health and all...

The woman is not sick. What happens in three weeks when she still isn't sick? If we set this precedent, it will be misused. It's not a question of if, it's a question of when.

9. How come

this issue didn't arise back in the spring when the first health providers returned from West Africa. No quarantine and no person got sick. Could it be an election is coming?

11. What other explanation could there be?

I'm sure the Dallas experience had nothing to do with it.

5. Most people don't seem to understand

that mental illness does not cause violence, so I could see that population being further scapegoated.

really too much of a hardship?

Shameful you even have to ask that.

21. House arrest without due process or a science based reason? I do not understand how you could think

this was ok.

Who else should we do this to?

22. This forced quarantine

issue is extremely scary and should worry us all.

This a civil rights issue and I comment the nurse for not stepping down!
