This one, subtitled " Ain't gonna let no Yankee Gov. tell us who can marry"Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to prohibit the State of Alabama from giving full faith and credit to
public acts, records, or judicial proceedings of another state that violate the public policy of the State of Alabama and to prohibit the
the application of foreign law in violation of rights guaranteed natural citizens by the United States and Alabama Constitutions, and the
statutes, laws, and public policy thereof, but without application to business entities.
This one is a "My Cold Dead Hands" amendment:
Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to provide that every citizen has a fundamental right to bear arms
and that any restriction on this right would be subject to strict scrutiny; and to provide that no international treaty or law shall prohibit,
limit, or otherwise interfere with a citizen's fundamental right to bear arms.
And in my county elections only TWO offices have more than ONE candidate...even a few Dems are running unopposed.

(135 posts)This is typical of Alabama and they have been that way for over 200 years now.
It is not gonna change anytime soon.

(60,010 posts)and who are not as ready to quit trying to change things as you seem to be.
And that many people cannot afford to move, and don't want to leave jobs, family.
and a lot of us Dems happen to like many things about the state other than politics.
Just because I point out something about Alabama politics does not mean I am "miserable".
I see you are new to DU....hope you will wait to know us a bit better before throwing out directives.

(135 posts)You want to stay enjoy.
I only offer a real, tangible, alternative you don't care to choose so you made a different choice, I hope you are happy with it.
As for me I am very happy living in the North were it just happens to be in the top 10 best places to live in America.
Unfortunately for you and others you choose to stay in a place that has been ranked as one of the 10 worst places to live in America.
We all have choices in life I am very happy with mine.

(37,748 posts)Alternatives are not solutions. More relevantly, making the choice to run away from something you couldn't change isn't really a solution either...
(insert rationalization below to better confirm bias,...)

(37,748 posts)We are in and of the South. Much less educated posters will tell us how miserable we actually are whether we ralize it or not, that we can't change anything, and that nothing will ever change.
They will do all of this without offering a solution... merely the suggestion to flee because, well... it's just too hard-- and of they can't do anything about it, then no one can.

(60,010 posts)There is something about the South, it makes you grow roots.
Except for politics and religion ( which most people do not discuss, wisely) there is much to like here,
esp. a readily available small town lifestyle, and much much lower cost of living.
In fact, our entire monthly budget, including mortgage, is way below the average cost of renting a 2 bedroom house on the West Coast.
And we have an acre of land, acres of trees all around, and chickens. In town, yet.
Gotta admit, I DO appreciate having the internet down here, opens doors to a lot of mental stimulation, esp. since we are very extroverted.
To each his own, for sure.

(135 posts)'We are in and of the South...'
Why that is exactly the same logic Southern Hero R.E. Lee used when he decided to take up arms against the United States of America.
Just like I said the South is never going to change in my life time
Glad Y'all is so happy down there.
As for fleeing, well I was never born in the south, parents job brought me down there for a number of years so I don't have an emotional attachment or longing for the traditional south like so many do who live and are from there.
So a question for Y'all besides whining on the internets what are YOU doing, besides voting, to change the South?
