Ann Romney: It was my early birthday present for someone to be critical of me as a mother.

Ann Romney, the wife of GOP front-runner Mitt Romney, told supporters at a private fundraising event on Sunday that last week’s Hilary Rosen controversy was an “early birthday present.”

“It was my early birthday present for someone to be critical of me as a mother,” she said. “That was a really defining moment, and I loved it.”

Ann Romney turns 63 on Monday.

While the private event in Palm Beach, Florida was for supporters only, multiple reporters heard the comment from the public sidewalk outside the house where the event was taking place.

mothering skills. She has been criticized for being totally out of touch with the reality that most American families live.

The part of the quote that you don't always hear is much more telling and a perfectly valid argument: "She’s never really dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of the women in this country are facing."

I wonder if she's accept advice from Hillary Clinton about being attacked as "working mom"?

Maybe Ann could get her of of those on one of her kitchen staffs to bake some chocolate chip cookies ...

I have a feeling this is what she or her handlers planned.

Of course, if she keeps talking, there's a good chance it will backfire. She sure doesn't sound like a "victim" here, and without that, where will the sympathy come from?

but THIS SHIT is why Democrats lose. Where the fuck are THEIR marketing people? Jesus Christ on a Pogo stick. There's so much material with Romney and nothing from the Dems, and one little slip by a CNN commentator and THIS. What the hell are the Democrats waiting for? Goddamn they are infuriating!

Before anyone says something like, "People are too smart to fall for that." remember an IQ average of 100 means 50% of the population is below that mark. Remember GWB. "They couldn't possibly be that dumb."

Oh they are.

Reminding everyone how rich you are is just the kind of "defining moment" you need. Time to double down.

you look at the idea of a 'birthday gift' from a different perspective.

I guess she must have been tickled pink by this comment of her own beloved husband:

"I wanted to increase the work requirement. I said,
for instance, that even if you have a child 2 years of age, you need to go to
work. And people said, 'Well that's heartless.' And I said, 'No, no, I'm
willing to spend more giving day care to allow those parents to go back to
work. It'll cost the state more providing that daycare, but I want the
individuals to have the dignity of work.'"In March:"If you've never had job in the private sector, It's hard for you
to understand how the economy works."
(—Mitt Romney, discussing welfare reform on January 4, 2012)

What was that... an early anniversary gift?

I feel sad for her that she sees this as a "really defining moment".

I'm about as far from rich as one can get, and honestly admit that mothering my children has been the greatest experience of my life.

Ann Romney's need to capitalize on this silly incident as a 'really defining moment' speaks volumes about her life and her values.

Not in very positive ways.

She's more out of touch than we all thought. Working women resent the hell out of her talking about "struggling". The media can play-pretend that people should be outraged by Rosen's comments, but Rosen just told it like it was.
