Warren in Minnesota:"The game is rigged, and the Republicans rigged it"

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) brought her populist message Saturday to this small college town to rev up the final weeks of Sen. Al Franken's reelection campaign, but also to claim the mantle of the modern liberal movement's political godfather.

Speaking before more than 400 people at Carleton College, Warren repeatedly invoked the spirit of the late Paul Wellstone, the fiery liberal senator who died 12 years ago this month in a plane crash during his reelection campaign. Wellstone remains a revered figure in Minnesota politics, and his brand of populism -- out of step in the Clintonian Democratic Party of the 1990s -- is now mainstream among leading liberal activists. Warren has become the most prominent public face of that movement, and the Wellstone disciples in this town 40 miles south of Minneapolis gave their approval Saturday.

"The game is rigged, and the Republicans rigged it," Warren said to loud cheers.

It's part of a three-state tour of Senate campaigns for Warren, who later Saturday headed to St. Paul for a get-out-the-vote rally on behalf of Franken, Gov. Mark Dayton (D) and other candidates. Franken and Dayton are strong favorites to win reelection next month.

... I think he is America's best hope, if we are to yet endure. As good as Sen Warren, Bernie is even better.

We still put out our Wellstone for Senate sign during every election season.

Bernie is known as America's Senator for a reason. I have listened to him at lunchtime on Hartmann since forever.

Hope he runs for President in 2016, even just to hold the frontrunners' faces in the fire of Progressive Populist reform.

& Paul is missed every time the gavel falls opening the US Senate.

2. Well, she's certainly right that they were the *first* to rig it.

Corporatists bought into their party first.

Unfortunately, corporate money floods both sides of the aisle in Washington now, and we find ourselves fighting abominations like the TPP and TISA, austerity, corporate education policy, drilling and fracking, and aggressive protection of banks even from Democrats who should be leading the charge to reverse these corporate assaults on Americans.

there's plenty of rigging blame to go around and plenty of Democrats with their hands stained with Wall Street money. Wasn't it Clinton who signed the repeal of Glass-Steagal? That was the event that really threw open the floodgates. Even after the damage was plain and clear, a unified Democratic government in 2009-2010 did nothing to stop the looting and pillaging.

There's an agenda that keeps going no matter who is elected, and the people who drive that agenda are just as happy to buy off a Democrat as they are to buy off a Republican, and there's no lack of takers on either side.

Warren exposed all this in her groundbreaking 2007 presentation on the middle class. We know what the problems are, but few-to-none of our representatives consider them problems at all.

Even after the past 13 years of Republican garbage, enough Americans are still moronic enough to vote for Republicans and allow both houses of Congress to literally be destroyed for at least the next two years. Our country is very, very sick - and no amount of antibodies such as Warren are enough to cure it.

And they continue to do so via the SCOTUS which is guaranteeing that a very solid block of Democrats never vote again.

I noticed that HuffPo did the same. They put her entire statement too. Not the edited version that WaPo did

Enough false equivalence. One of the political parties is worse than the other. Go ahead and say it.
