NEW HAVEN >> A graduate student at Yale University School of Public Health is being treated in isolation Thursday at Yale-New Haven Hospital for evaluation of possible Ebola-like symptoms after returning from Liberia.
The student returned from Liberia on Saturday and was admitted to Yale-New Haven Hospital Wednesday night.
Yale-New Haven Hospital admitted a patient late Wednesday night for evaluation of Ebola-like symptoms, the hospital said in a statement. We have not confirmed or ruled-out any diagnosis at this point. We are working in cooperation with City, State and Federal health officials. There is no further information available at this time.
Officials said the symptoms the victim was exhibiting Wednesday evening have reportedly abated, but that could not be confirmed Thursday morning.

No test results back yet but there will be a presser later today.
This does not surprise me, given Yale's international presence, particularly its school of Epidemiology.
More later after test results come back.

(14,881 posts)there probably were thousands of Duncans released over the last few months, who did not have Ebola.
But it's better to err on the side of caution, imo. I'm relieved to see that lesson has been learned.

(63,903 posts)this issue is relevant. I live in New Haven and I was relaying how this played out right here in my home town. I have been to the Emergency Room of Yale New Haven Hospital. It matters to me and I'm sure anyone else who must depend on the ER there.
But it is relevant to the whole question "Are our ERs prepared enough to deal with infectious diseases should they become present in my community?" So it's not just my ER or your ER.
This is a huge political question right now. When you read that the CDC had its funding for directly related preparedness cut from the budget, you have to ask what the mindset was behind the decision to make that cut. And that goes to the question of the people we send to Congress and to control of state budgets as well. We have a tight race now for Governor, despite our deep blue electorate.
There's plenty there to talk about.
