Brutal New Ad Blames GOP Spending Cuts For Ebola Deaths (VIDEO)

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/agenda-project-ad-republican-cuts-kill

A new TV ad blames prominent Republicans for Ebola deaths, attacking them for championing spending cuts that have gone after emergency public health funding for containing disease outbreaks.

The one minute ad, called "Republican Cuts Kill," splices grueling images of body bags and workers in hazmat suits with footage of top Republicans like Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) and House Speaker John Boehner (OH) calling for spending cuts. It also features 2014 Republican Senate candidates Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Cory Gardner of Colorado, Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Pat Roberts of Kansas.

The spot was produced by the Agenda Project Action Fund, the same progressive group that has made controversial anti-Republican ads such as "Granny Off the Cliff." The group's spokeswoman, Erica Payne, said Monday the ad would air in Kentucky, North Carolina, South Dakota and Kansas — all of which feature competitive Senate races that could swing the majority.

(snip)
Payne told TPM the group would take out a "low six figure buy in Kentucky – the others states are being decided now."

In Italy, those scientists predicted there would be no volcano. They were wrong. Their imprisonment for a mistake was bizarre.

Here, the GOP has told us since president Obama took office that indiscriminate cuts have no consequences. Nobody is suggesting jail time. Nevertheless, it is obvious that cuts to medical research have consequences to everyone, except gop elected officials. For heavens sake, several senators, including senator McCain, tried to end fruit fly research, despite the clear importance of that research to medical advances. The GOP's policy prescriptions of late have been ridiculous and dangerous. This ad. is appropriate.

this pile of excrement article. All i said was the article was impossible to believe with a straight face.

First of all, this article makes an assumption that a cure would be found at all. That is in no way guaranteed. Viruses are extremely hard to develop cures for, and to assume that you will have a cure in the first place is pure fantasy.

In addition, an Ebola cure would be very hard to test. They have to test it on live humans with Ebola to get any legit results. In the past several years, there haven't been any Ebola outbreaks. Do you suggest they go around infecting people with Ebola so they can test their potential cure?

Even if they had a larger budget, what is the likelihood of them spending the huge amounts of money required on Ebola research? I can think of a million other diseases, viruses, random projects for them to spend the money on before they spend millions on a virus that still has yet to kill an single American.

People are talking about this article like it's going to get a shitton of votes for Dems in November, which is totally unbelievable. The premise of the article just sounds completely ridiculous.

If you're after votes with a bullshit strategy like this, then why the fuck haven't we closed the borders and quarantined everyone from Africa. The person you're going after with this whole "we could have cured Ebola without budget cuts" strategy is exactly the reactionary type person that would want closed borders and quarantines.

I would love to see more of them pointing out all the cuts that were made to programs that shouldn't have been cut, and all the "cuts" that were never made to oil companies, corporate welfare, tax breaks for the rich, etc. Let the country know how the republicans cut the hell out of things for everyone but the rich, and make it as brutal as they can.

I just saw Fox News show this ad.

1. They inferred it was put out by the Democrats. (In fact, it's put out by THE AGENDA PROJECT, which is a group of millionaires who advocate raising taxes on the rich. Seriously, does anybody really think the Democratic PARTY would have the spine and populist common sense to put out this ad? It pays them a compliment they don't deserve.)

2. They carefully edited it to cut out the part where the head of NIH talks about budget cutting since 2010 being the main problem (the left hook), and the 'right cross' being the sequester cuts.

3. They then had Brit 'the Hound Dog' Hume come out and claim that A) the NIH/CDC budgets were cut by the SEQUESTER (as opposed to years of GOP cutting), and B) the SEQUESTER was all Obama's idea.

Okay, I guess that'll keep the troglodytes that live in the conservative echo chamber happy. Let's see what the GENERAL public thinks about it.
