At What Point Are Climate Change Denying Politicians Going To Be Laughed Off The Stage.

I grew up in tornado alley in central Illinois in the 1950's and early 1960's. We had tornadoes every season. But I do not remember that we had as many in number as I am seeing today. With the last few years the activity has been just unbelievable. I know we have better coverage than back then, but I do not believe that if we had had that many then it would go unnoticed.

The states being blasted by these huge number of tornadoes are where most of the politicians vehemently deny climate change.
It is probably already too late now to change patterns but when will voters realize that they are being had.

You have to think that something funny is going on. 4 feet of hail in Texas? Hundreds of tornadoes in one in one frontal passage? Multiple even mile wide tornadoes on the ground for up to 100 miles that were once thought to be a rarity?

What is making it worse is all the political attacks on green technology. Teabaggers are saying that it is a communist plot to pursue green initiatives. The RW wingers are also attacking saying weather change is a complete lie. And it goes on and on day after day.

What kind of weather catastrophe will have to happen before the deniers wake up?

when denial is no longer profitable. With a few exceptions... Inhofe I think falls in that category... it is purely follow the money.

2. no tornados have ever occurred in these areas in spring before? wow

climate change or not, the "increase" in tornados is quite likely the result of latest technology seeing more of them were not noticed in years way passed, when visual sighting was the only way to know if one actually passed by

1) Visual sighting is still the only way a touchdown is confirmed.

2) The actual experts (as opposed to, you know, uninformed amateurs blowing smoke on the internet) have been keeping track of these things for a very long time, and have concluded that yes, even though they now have better technology to identify them, factoring that in still does not account for the EARLIER, STRONGER, MORE FREQUENT and MORE NUMEROUS storms.

Does account for more violent and dramatic weather events. It was even predicted, and now mostly confirmed and shit, by people with a tad more training in th than either of us. This, shocking I know, are increased frequency and strenth of tornadoes, as well as tornadoes out of usual areas, like oh the F1 in Stocton Califrnia two nights ago.

6. The record warmth of the Gulf of Mexico is partially responsible for this outbreak

http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/show.html

Temperatures in the states bordering the Gulf of Mexico were the 3rd - 7th warmest on record during the first three months of 2012, according to NOAA's National Climatic Data Center. This allowed Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs) in the Gulf of Mexico (25 - 30°N, 85 - 90°W) to climb to 1.4°C (2.5°F) above average during March 2012, according to a wunderground analysis of the Hadley Centre SST data set. This is the warmest March value on record for the Gulf of Mexico, going back over a century of record keeping. During the first two weeks of April, Gulf of Mexico waters remained about 1.5°C above average, putting April on pace to have the warmest April water temperatures on record. Only one year in the past century has had April water temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico more than 1.1°C above average; that year was 2002 (1.4°C above average.) All that record-warm water is capable of putting record amounts of water vapor into the air, since evaporation increases when water is warmer. Because moist air is less dense than dry air, this warm, moist air flowing northwards from the Gulf of Mexico into the developing storm system over the Plains will be highly unstable once it encounters cold, dry air aloft. The record-warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico are a key reason for the high risk of severe weather over the Plains this weekend.

here is the major difference between us and our neighbors to the south.

I was there when they had a very weird hail storm... I mean weird... I even posted it here, and had people attack, I guess climate change is not a fact for some.

So once it was over the head, not a flunky, the head of the weather service went on the main news channels, they broke programing, and he explained WHY this was happening. He also said it was important for people to understand that this hall storm and the drought up north were part of it, since Mexico was impacted much earlier than the US, that Mexicans understood this.

Alas they are not in denial, we are. So instead we get weather men like my channel nine local, who is a MAJOR change denier, telling us that Tornadoes in Stockton California are rare but happen. Yes they are rare, yes they are happening, but more often,

10. Have you ever thought of checking your preconceptions

at the door and doing some learning?

The "Green Dragon"* does not exist in any form, just people who recognise that there is something distinctly odd in the patterns of weather and that more extremes are becoming more frequent.

The only people who believe in the "Green Dragon" are fools like Monckton, fossil fuel puppets (like Watts) or religious fundamentalists like Inhofe who believe it is all part of Gahds plan for the world and humans should do nothing.

From James A Wanliss, associate Professor of Physics at Presbyterian College and member of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation.

“Around the world, environmentalism has become an unbalanced, radical movement. Something we call “The Green Dragon.” And it is deadly, deadly to human prosperity, deadly to human life, deadly to human freedom and deadly to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Make no mistake about it, environmentalism is no longer your friend. It is your enemy. And the battle is not primarily political or material, it is spiritual. As Christians, we must actively trust God and obey His word. So when it comes to environmental stewardship, we must reject the false world view, the faulty science and the counterfeit gospel that threatens to corrupt society and the church.”

off things that have damaged and are damaging our weather.

I don't think that's going to change. Republicans have no conscience.

Frankly, unless the country gets educated (and I'm not talking about schooling - I'm talking about growing their own brains - reading newspapers, looking things up, researching, and just THINKING), I think they will continue to vote for right wingers, and thereby destroying our weather.

Seriously, the projections are for the Arctic ice cap to disintegrate entirely in the summer by 2015-2020 at current rates of thinning.

At which point the Arctic ocean will start warming even faster.........

13. I can't really see one weather event leading to change.
Sun Apr 15, 2012, 11:48 AM

Maybe when people stop profiting from it they'll change.
Until that day all I can see is a steadily slanting descent into a world in turmoil where hunger relief efforts for the countries who will the bear the first hard brunt of mostly our own actions will start coming up empty in search of funds and we'll have to process the knowledge of our greed leading to their sorrow. Once an undeniable string of highly destructive events can be marked over a long period of time and people have to see & feel first hand the hell we have created of this earth they might be moved to unplug from the system which is escalating the already real consequences of climate change.
"Climate change is out of control! How's my Exxon doing?"
Once the last rube has awoken and realized they worked hand in hand with the richest corporations of the planet to strip it of it's wealth in exchange for a few trinkets we can hope to start work on a better future for all families. Til then, it's grab the horn and hang on for dear life. All the clowns in this rodeo are looking out for themselves.

Of course, then they'll say we didn't need 'em, anyway. I don't know, that tornado that took out Woodward, OK, last night, was said to be at least a half mile wide and on the ground for ten miles. And it was their fourth bad storm event of the week. Who knows what it'll take?

Actually, some fairly red areas of my state are beginning to show signs of acknowledging the reality of climate change/global warming...a town in coastal WA may decide to revise its building code to better prepare for rising sea levels and tho that idea is being met with quite a bit of indignant opposition, the city council is at least putting forward such a proposal.
