Former SoS Allbright on Kerry: "He's eminently suited "for challenges on job.

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/10/08/madeleine-albright-on-john-kerry-hes-eminently-suited-for-challenges-of-job/

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright says the man who now holds her old position, John Kerry, has been doing a “very hard job” at an especially complex time.....

....“I think it is obviously a huge responsibility in terms of representing America’s national interest and, at the same time, trying to understand what is going on in other countries in order to be able to solve the problems,” Albright said of serving as secretary of state.

“Also very much the question is to whether you travel around to solve the issues or work within Washington, and he (Kerry) has to do both. So it’s a very hard job, but one that he is eminently suited for because he has a really good, long-term understanding of these problems.”

Albright said the fact that Kerry was able to form a coalition of Arab nations to help with U.S. airstrikes against the Islamic State is “really remarkable because it’s in an area where we know there are already a lot of differences, and he has managed to get this group of countries together in order to understand the threat of ISIL.”

Also a full-interview video into this link.

Thanks Mrs Allbright!

And Kerry isn't interested in pushing fluff pieces to the media for personal PR.

Even the Boston Globe had a fun article (in addition to the serious climate change one) from his visit last week with the British FM when he took the FM to several tourist sites in Boston.

Linda, you might remember the cookies from this store.

It doesn't say if the SOS bought any cookies. He and Hammond were there to speak of wind power.

Yummy Cookies!

There was also a very nice Vogue article - that had some nice photos as well - http://www.vogue.com/1414623/john-kerry-secretary-of-state/

I think because he has taken on the most difficult, challenging foreign policy problems that he will get mixed and even negative reviews on his work on things that do not work out. I think the comment from Strobe Talbot in that article answers those attacks:

During this jolting period Kerry will seem to be everywhere at once, engaging in negotiations, jousting with his foreign counterparts, and struggling to pull off small victories before jumping back on his plane. “I don’t think there has ever been a Secretary of State who has thrown himself into the job with as much verve and conviction as this guy has,” says Strobe Talbott, a deputy Secretary of State under President Clinton and now the president of the Washington think tank the Brookings Institution as well as a Kerry adviser. “If he can’t get a workable and acceptable compromise on a dispute, it’s very hard to imagine anybody who can.”

The fact is that if you never even try to take the lead on impossible issues, you may never fail. However, you might miss a chance that really would have made things better had you risked failing. Years ago, in DU JK, a mutual friend we had quoted William Shedd - A ship is safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are for.” in reference to that same willingness to take risks to get solutions as being who Kerry is.

There is a very nice interview on this link - mainly about Afghanistan, where Kerry has received and deserves a huge amount of credit -- no matter what happens from this point in that country. Well worth listening do for a very thoughtful explanation of both Afghanistan and what they are trying to do against extremists. (On that - Kerry was key in getting the coalition together and on pushing an inclusive government in Iraq. Both necessary steps -- but first baby steps of many needed - even though both were thought to be unlikely when Obama first spoke of them.) http://www.voanews.com/content/kerry-us-coalition-effort-gaining-momentum/2480112.html
