Protesters interrupt St. Louis Symphony w/ "Requiem for Mike Brown."

This is really interesting. It'll get spun all kinds of ways but I'm fascinated by the audience, the conductor, the orchestra, many of whom clearly are supportive. And then there are the stunned, who I wish could appreciate what a unique thing they witnessed.

that 1%ers (as well as others with disposable income) attend, and therefore an excellent place to get their undivided attention. It certainly seemed to work when I watched the video.

The captive audience at that sparsely attended performance was also mostly caucasian. Someone on DU who lives in that county said the racism there is indeed pretty awful especially from the white flighters living in the suburbs of St Louis. So the protesters had a good chance of reaching both groups just by choosing the symphony as a venue.

You have to be a person of "disposable income" to attend a symphony? Does that rule apply to all concerts or just ones featuring classical music? Because I'll bet you can get tickets a LOT cheaper to the symphony than to a rock concert and the performers make a pittance by comparison. And yes, even regular working folks enjoy the symphony and opera. Just because they're not wearing t-shirts and jeans doesn't mean very much -- a night at the symphony is usually considered special enough to put on some dressier clothes. The assumption that there's a bunch of racists at any symphony concert is a bunch of hooey. An awful lot of folks who support the arts are decidedly Democratic.

I'm sticking with everything I said and specifically what I said about the St Louis area.

Enjoy your night.

PS although we're not connecting on this issue, I see you, like I, enjoy, carpentry, astronomy, genealogy and activism. Maybe we'll connect on one of those around DU some time.

And I stand by everything I said, as well. I'm afraid we'll just have to disagree on this one.

Fear? Outrage? Embarrassment? She'd have been far better off if she'd just sung along.
