Photographer defied racism of late 1800s to build diverse portfolio

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Hugh Mangum of North Carolina set up temporary portrait studios and photographed hundreds of everyday Americans. What was unusual about him was that he accepted all comers, black or white, in a time when segregation was still a dangerous reality.

Thanks for sharing. These are some of the most interesting pictures I have seen from that time period. He was certainly brave to accept everyone who came, and he made some delightful shots.
