Reports: Adrian Peterson indicted

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been indicted by a Montgomery County, Texas, grand jury on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child, multiple media reports are reporting.

The charges were confirmed by attorney Rusty Hardin, the reports said.

I would assume this is about his son who was killed last year when left in the care of his ex-wife's (although I'm not sure they were married) derelict, ex-criminal boyfriend...kid was 2, I think.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Peterson's indictment "stems from the disciplining of a son with a switch." He adds that Peterson testified in front of a grand jury "weeks ago."

out visiting at my grandparents farm. Sent me out to cut a switch to whip me with, so I'd cut the flimsiest one i could. She considered that unacceptable, so she went out and cut one herself, plus several to take home while she was at it.

They would tear you up! We went for the thicker ones and luckily Mom was pretty merciful.....definitely did not have the strength of an NFL player.

The doctor, who probably has mandatory reporting, reported him because the child had actual open wounds and severe bruising. I know people like to say that parents are too easy on their kids nowadays but are we really OK with beating a child this badly?

I do not think there is ever a reason to hit a child. If he had done this to an adult of either gender he would have and should have been arrested for assault. So why is it OK to hit a small child so hard you leave actual wounds on the poor kid.

My comment is more in general than to the OP

When I read the comments to the story around the internet, it seems like a log of people condoned beating a child until they are bloody. These people keep saying - my daddy whooped me and it didn't harm me - that's what kids need these days. Well, I tend to disagree that it didn't hurt them - they are awfully callous about the severe beating of a child - cold hearted, really.

I don't think any adult should ever strike a child, never mind beat one bloody.

oops - hit enter before finishing

Rice was at least arrested for knocking out his wife - he got a slap on the wrist but he was arrested. I think hitting a child is the same as hitting an adult - a domestic violence arrest and the child protected (no matter the gender of the parent who assaulted the child.)
