http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2014/09/07/us-radio-hosts-same-sex-marriage-will-cause-straight-men-to-cheat-on-their-wives-with-gays/Two radio hosts from the Liberty Council insisted that marriage equality will make zillions of straight men gallivant with the gay folk, ruining everybody's marriages.
Do conservative evangelical men think about anything else but this kind of crap?

(5,756 posts)It's a rather simple conclusion. If a man decides to cheat on his wife by having an affair with another man HE'S NOT FLIPPING STRAIGHT. He as, at best, bi-sexual, and, at worst, a closeted homosexual who needs to seek help coming to terms with his sexual orientation.
Legal same-sex marriage has nothing to do with that man's desire to cheat. Certainly no more than so many actual straight men's desire to cheat on their wives with women.

Based on this, I would say that "pinknews" is on par with the National Enquirer.

For the last two days, Mat Staver and Matt Barber have been discussing the Family Research Council's "Ten Arguments From Social Science Against Same-Sex Marriage" document on their daily "Faith and Freedom" radio show. On today's broadcast, the two cited reason number six - "Same-sex 'marriage' would undercut the norm of sexual fidelity within marriage" - to argue that legalizing gay marriage would somehow result in straight couples becoming less faithful.
Citing quotes from gay writers like Andrew Sullivan and Dan Savage, Barber and Staver argued that gay male couples are more likely to have open relationships, which they then used to bizarrely assert that letting gays get married would ultimately undermine the practice of monogamy within straight marriages.
"You start doing that in a marriage relationship with a man and a woman," Staver said, "and the woman's just not going to do it."
"We know that women serve to domesticate men," Barber added. "That's not an opinion, that's the social science that shows that women ultimately bring men into their role as father, as provider, and protector for the household and they domesticate men and that lends itself toward monogamy."
There are plenty of straight couples, of course, who engage in open relationships, so what any of this has to do with gay marriage is anybody's guess.

Please show me how the headline YOU posted is in any way related to their recorded conversation.
The headline of the OP is "Matt Barber and Mat Staver: marriage equality will make straight men run off with gays"
Again, please show me where they stated anything to validate the headline.

(1,712 posts)I couldn't care less in this case, it has no bearing whatsoever to my post.
The OP referenced a site that ran with not only an inflammatory headline but one that I deem to be entirely false as well. Deal with it.

(57,349 posts)Your hostility is toxic, this is NOT LBN, if you have a problem with op perhaps you should find a more mature way to "deal with it".

(1,712 posts)Again, it's a very simple question.
Let's go through it by the numbers. I have to presume that you're more interested in the truth vs. hyperbole and/or outright falsehoods, correct? Or perhaps not.
The headline, which seems to have informed most of the posts on the thread, indicates that "marriage equality will make straight men run off with gays"
I read the transcript, I listened to the 'tape', and I found nothing of the sort.
We make fun of Faux News all the time for fake/misleading headlines. Why is this any different?

Of course, you could instead choose to address the original question rather than this worthless dance.
Go for it.

(58,237 posts)Sending an SOP alert allows the DU hosts to deal the issue and saves you the trouble of being rude.

(1,712 posts)I'm merely attempting to engage in a reasonable discussion... you know, where one asks a question and in return receives a response.
I have no idea what an "SOP" refers to, and I think the "alerts" function is extremely abused. I find nothing offensive about free speech, and although I understand the right of a private site to monitor behavior, most of what I see "alerted" on is minor at best.
I seriously doubt that on this site I would ever find the need to "alert" on a poster.

(53,951 posts)Did I tell you I ran off with a straight man back to Oklahoma? Oh wait, I am still with the same man, not straight at all, but we did leave New Orleans.
I find articles like this to be so interesting. The idea that gays will be come equals scares the shit out of so many. If my partner and I were to get married the only people affected are us, and those we invite to the wedding because they got to come up with a hell of gift!

The house here isn't anywhere as charming, but our home in NOLA could fit in our backyard! Things are much cheaper here. OH, and I quit smoking! It's been 5 months!
The puppies are well, we added one to our Krewe. We lost our cat Tony in June. I cried for more than a week straight and still do from time to time.
I am still sick, but going to the doctor tomorrow and demanding we figure this out.
How's about you?!
