Did Chad Taylor Realy Make A Mistake, or Simply Bait a Rat Trap? (Either Way, I'll Take It.)

Three days ago Republican Senator Pat Roberts was leading a three way Senate race in Kansas with 32% of the vote; and his two challengers (a Democrat and an Independent) garnering roughly 25% each.

Two days ago the Democrat (Chad Taylor) drops out, leaving Roberts in a TWO way race, which the independent (Greg Orman), who leads by 15 points. The GOP goes into a tizzy! This virtually guarantees that the GOP will NOT win the Kansas Senate race, and gives Democrats a fair chance at keeping control of the Senate.

One day ago, the Republican Secretary of State for Kansas (Kris Kornbach), in an obvious and petty partisan move, rules that Taylor CAN'T drop out of the race, because "he didn't say SIMON SAYS!" Well, not really. Kornbach, who is on Roberts' election committee, claimed that Taylor's letter of resignation from the race wasn't 'worded properly.' The intent of his resignation letter was clear, and he clearly wanted to be removed from the ballot. Kornbach's splitting hairs over the wording is an obvious and cheap, petty-partisan trick to keep the name of a 'zombie candidate' on the ballot IN ORDER TO FOOL VOTERS, and is easily seen for what it is.

Today, Independent Greg Orman has some excellent material to throw at his Republican opponent. "BOTH parties are bad...blah blah blah... BOTH parties are petty and cheap...blah blah blah.. But only ONE of those parties is still in the race. And if you don't like these kinds of cheap, Washington-based tricks...I'm your man!"

Yesterday I was pissed off about this. Today I'm ecstatic. Thanks Republicans for being totally incapable of resisting the urge to pull a cheap, partisan trick, and pissing off the Kansas voters. Sure the Democratic withdrawal might be seen as a partisan trick, too, but the Democrats are no longer on the ballot. Just the Republicans, and an honest local independent.
