Elizabeth Warren Slams Eric Cantor for Taking a Wall Street Job
By Colin Campbell, Business Insider
05 September 14

en. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) took former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor to task on Wednesday for taking a new job from at investment bank Moelis. Cantor will ultimately earn $3.4 million as part of the package for his new position.

Asked about Cantor's move in an interview with Yahoo News' Katie Couric, Warren sighed and sharply criticized the "revolving door" between former politicians and the powerful industries that employ them after they leave office.

"How wrong can this be?" she asked. "Basically what is happening here is that people work in Washington, and man, they hit that revolving door with a speed that would blind you."

Cantor resigned from Congress in August after he lost his Republican primary election in a shocking upset. Moelis announced his hiring on Monday. Some, including former corporate lawyer Dennis Kelleher, criticized the hire as notable because of Cantor's lack of relevant investment experience.

His ego is so massive, it takes up a few states. The money will help, but I'm sure he's concocting some way to get back at her. Good on her for saying it straight out. I hope others follow her lead.

He was already rich and now he will have guaranteed wealth for the rest of his life. I'm sure he believes he will never get what he is worth. But he is also an insecure weasel who has created a giant ego as a shield. Obama put him in his place and he pouted to the side like a little boy. No matter how much $$ you have, there are some things you can't buy, like character and self-love.

Even so he still got a great job, but now I suspect jealousy from others or hatred. Two emotions I can do without.

Glad you're both here! Yeah, it IS a tough crowd. I've had my head handed to me a few times and it never seems to stop me from sticking my neck out anyway. Hmmm... so what does THAT tell you (LOL!)?

I think what galls some people here - and I'm among them - is how this guy somehow didn't see fit to stay and serve out the rest of his term - that the people of his state originally entrusted to him and counted on him to serve them. Yeah, fine. Go for the bucks. That doesn't surprise anybody. Why do you have to be in such a hurry to skeedaddle outta there and go for the bucks? Heck, if he'd waited til January, he'd STILL be marketable enough. He'd still be snapped up by some big-ticket firm offering some big-ticket salary. His shelf-life value would not have declined all that much - if indeed at all. So for now, if I'm not mistaken, he's no longer serving the people of his Virginia district. And neither is anybody else. They have NO representation while he can go get the hell outta Dodge and go get for himself. Sort of underscores what is strongly suggested as the ultimate truth about his ultimate mission: eric cantor was and is in business for himself. And that's evidently the only "constituency" he's really ever cared about. You didn't see that when Jimmy Carter got voted out. He served out the rest of his term. And for that matter, so did bush1. now, on the other hand, sarah palin sure bailed in a hurry to go for the gold. Guess you can't keep 'em down on the tundra after they've seen DC.

I imagine cantor felt motivated to leave as early as possible as a kind of subtle "fuck you" to the voters back home. If you guys didn't see fit to keep me in that lofty position I worked so hard to achieve, then the heck with you all. So that's the thanks I get for all the hard work I did for my career - AHEM!!! I mean - for you? Well, then, screw you, I'm outta here, and I'm gettin' for ME.

Just my opinion here, but the behavior seems rather tell-tale. The Man-Up-and-See-It-Through-To-The-End ethic seems NOT to have been in play with this guy.

When things didn't go his way in the primaries, he grabbed his ball and went home. How dare the voters in his district fail to recognize That his lofty entitlement was, by Divine Right and Decree, supposed to be maintained, indeed should have been considered sacrosanct and untouchable? I mean, who the hell do they think they are?!?

He didn't even have the class to finish out his term. Or maybe it was too big a blow to his too-big ego to have to continue to show his face around Capitol Hill knowing he wasn't entitled to that big fancy status office or highfalutin title anymore? Had to QUICK-go-get-a-new-one so he could keep on feeling like a big shot, I guess. Because, evidently, this is a guy who desperately NEEDS to feel like a big shot. After all, what is life without a title and a big fancy status office? And now he'll be getting paid much more than the rest of them and he knows they all know it, too. So in a way, I suppose, he can justify thinking he's STILL top dog.

They ARE the quintessential Sore Losermen, these GOPers.

opportunities. She nodded along while her Party engaged in racist rhetoric, homophobic acts of inhuman bigotry and economic policies that were harmful to children and other living things, she endorsed those wrongs, voted repeatedly for those policies and bigotries.
Those who were silent during those times have much to explain, and will not be lauded as decent people until they do that explaining fully and well.
'Other than endorsing ignorant and vicious policy for the bulk of her life , she never misses an opportunity!!!'
Not impressed. When she was needed, she was on the wrong side of history and she's never admitted her errors.
