Family of "hate crime victim" Shaima Alawadi gives surprising interview to Arab paper.
By way of background: according to the affidavit filed by the police requesting a search warrant, the daughter Fatima reported having heard her mother squeal, and then ten seconds later, she heard the sound of glass breaking and thought it was a plate. She found her mother about ten minutes later when she went into the kitchen.
This didn't make much sense to me because, if she could hear the squeal and the breaking glass, how come she couldn't hear any sounds of a struggle after the "intruder" started attacking her mother?

But in an interview with the Arab paper, her family spokesman (who was present in the house before the police arrived) claims she heard nothing at all. Even more strangely, the family claims to know exactly how the mother was hit:

Hamidi, 48, said he could not go on talking and explained that he was in a bad state before passing on the telephone to his wifes cousin Hussein Alwadi.
I saw her body in the dinning room a few minutes before the police arrived, her cousin told Al Arabiya.

He first hit her on her forehead then on her right ear. The third strike was on the back of her head. This was followed by five fast and consecutive strikes on her head and shoulders.

Because the attack was fast, the eldest daughter Fatima, who was asleep in the upper floor, did not hear a thing and only found out when she woke up and went downstairs to see her mothers body drenched in blood.

After the death of the mother, the husband and the daughter Fatima -- the girl who either heard something or heard nothing -- went back to Iraq for the funeral. What do you want to bet that neither of them ever returns here?
Why did the police let them leave the country?
