(8,558 posts)Its "the man come and take you away" ...and that is the point: its The Man. It was The Man then, and its The Man now again, still. TPTB, attempting to maintain and consolidate their power over us all.
I'd love this if that were corrected, but I do like it anyway. Very appropriate. Sad that a nearly 45-50 (?) year old song is so relevant.

(46,436 posts)how relevant that song still is. I sure hoped things would get better back in those days, but, alas...

(22,590 posts)The truth is lost because the quote is inaccurate.
But maybe the creators of the meme want to avoid copyright law.
At any rate I cannot endorse its use.
Sorry.
Love you, sheshe2.

(21,925 posts)The song in earlier form probably had origins in slave era spirituals ("No more auction block for me" is earliest recorded melody of this song with different words) but Pete Seeger first made it popular.

(23,163 posts)"Young people speakin' their minds,
Gettin' so much resistance from behind....
What a field-day for the heat,
A thousand people in the street,
Singin' songs, and a-carryin' signs
Mostly say hooray for our side....
It's time we STOP!, hey,
What's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down."
