European Space Agency astronaut Alexander Gerst shared photos taken from space of Israel and the Gaza Strip onto Facebook and Twitter with a bleak caption: My saddest photo yet. From the International Space Station we can actually see explosions and rockets flying over Gaza and Israel.

(12,723 posts)1. If only every human being could be taken into space and see us all at once
maybe there would be hope for this sad, backwards, provincial little civilization of ours.
Almost every person who has gone to space has come back with a deeper understanding of how we are all connected and a distaste for the petty squabbling that keeps us from growing as a species.
Maybe it will really take something like in the Star Trek universe where we have to blow ourselves to hell and back before we can finally grow up. I hope it does not take that but I wonder.

I found that just living in another culture can change your
perspective significantly if you're willing to let it change.
