Fucking assholes:
Israeli football players attacked with flying kicks by pro-Palestinians who invade pitch during friendly match in Austria
By Mail Online Reporter
Published: 22:47 EST, 23 July 2014
Israeli football team Maccabi Haifa's game against French side Lille had to be stopped after pro-Palestinian protesters stormed the pitch.
Supporters of reportedly Turkish origin ran onto the field in the Austrian stadium where the game was played and headed for the Maccabi players, sparking ugly scenes.
One of the players is seen to trip a fan before punches were thrown. The Maccabi players - some of whom retaliated - managed to leave the field unhurt.
The incident comes amid fears of growing anti-Semitism in Europe at time when Israeli forces are locked in a violent conflict with militant group Hamas in Gaza.

(1,933 posts)innocent man, woman and child who is killed by the Israelis in Gaza (or anywhere else) a seed of hatred is planted in those who cannot tolerate the savagery that the world ignores. Hopefully the U.N. can do something about it now that they voted to investigate war crimes. Bibi Yahoo is a barbarian.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Anti-Semitic even by DU standards
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Jul 24, 2014, 07:47 AM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: did i miss where du started censoring? are we not supposed to have an opinion about the israel-gaza conflict? (obviously) i'm confused.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: What exactly is anti-Semitic about this post?
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I think the comment is being misconstrued by other posters. It appears to me to be a global comment on the consequence of violence. I don't believe the poster was meaning to justify the violence towards these Israeli athletes, but rather bemoaning the sad results of violence towards innocents. And, no, criticizing the actions of Netanyahu and government is not anti-semitic any more than criticizing the US government's actions and especially the neocon warmongering is anti-patriotic.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Only anti-semitic to those who view ALL criticism of Israel as ant-semitic.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: I'm voting to hide because Ive grown weary of anti-Israeli trolls.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: This is a tough one. The post isn't antisemitic in itself, but since it justifies attacking soccer players, I vote to hide. The comment makes a good point, but it isn't appropriate for this subject. Even if this attack has something to do with the Gaza invasion, I think it's an excuse to attack Jews. These players have nothing to do with their country's foreign policy.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I don't see the Antisemitism.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(5,514 posts)When people see their families destroyed by bombs dropped from the sky (Israeli. Palestinian or otherwise), they're likely to become radicalized and violent themselves. That doesn't justify their behavior, but it's true. This is a cycle of violence and the continued perpetuation of that cycle is counterproductive.

UN School In Gaza Hit By Shells, At Least 15 Dead (UPDATED)
GAZA/JERUSALEM, July 24 (Reuters) - Gazan authorities said Israeli forces shelled a shelter at a U.N.-run school on Thursday, killing at least 15 people as the Palestinian death toll in the conflict climbed over 750 and attempts at a truce remained elusive.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his horror at the attack on the school at Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza strip. "Many have been killed - including women and children, as well as U.N. staff," he said in a statement. "Circumstances are still unclear. I strongly condemn this act."
The Israeli military said its troops were fighting gunmen from Hamas, which runs Gaza, in the area and that it was investigating the incident. A spokesman for the U.N. relief agency said it had tried in vain to arrange an evacuation of civilians from the school with the Israeli army, and noted reports of Hamas rockets falling in the area at the same time.
Pools of blood lay on the ground and on students' desks in the courtyard of the school near the apparent impact mark of the shell, according to a Reuters photographer at the scene.
Scores of crying families who had been living in the school ran with their children to a hospital where the victims were being treated a few hundred meters away. Laila Al-Shinbari, a woman who was at the school when it was shelled, told Reuters that families had gathered in the courtyard expecting to be evacuated shortly in a Red Cross convoy.
"All of us sat in one place when suddenly four shells landed on our heads ... Bodies were on the ground, (there was) blood and screams. My son is dead and all my relatives are wounded including my other kids," she wept.
Ashraf al-Qidra, spokesman for the Gaza Health Ministry, said that as well as the 15 dead, another 200 people had been wounded in the attack. The director of a local hospital said various medical centers around Beit Hanoun were receiving the wounded.
UNIMAGINABLE PRICE
More than 140,000 Palestinians have fled 17 days of fighting between Israel and Gaza militants, many of them seeking shelter in buildings run by the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). Israeli forces are trying to stop militants from Hamas and their allies from firing rockets into its territory.

(89,244 posts)I really don't know what is going through the heads of the individuals involved. They may be passionate supporters of the Palestinian cause or they may simply be a group of thugs. In any event, I do not believe this type of action really is not helpful to the cause of the Palestinians.

(23,272 posts)Unfortunately, there's a lot of racist anger in Europe and it tends to follow historical grievances.
Completely sucks.
What I wonder is if there's outside "help" in fanning the flames against Jews in Europe recently or if its home grown (misplaced) anger at Jews because of Israel.... I know there's been a simmering anti-semitism in places like France with the N African communities being the most violent about it, but the outright anti-semitic public acts like this one in Austria appear to be on the rise now.
