As long as enough Americans are against unions and labor laws wages will continue to fall for most workers. Listening to Hartman today United Airlines is going to fire its ticket agents and hire contractors at $12 an hour to replace middle class jobs. Workers even GOPPERS need to wake up even if they are in a decent job because their wages will fall eventually.
What workers did not understand about the Reagan Revolution was that he was setting up an economy where $10 an hour would be called a good wage. And if you really listen to the rhetoric you will hear "Americans cannot compete with the global economy" or "American workers must be prepared to compete in a global economy". That means 3rd world wages for the masses.
Only 20% of the jobs in the future under the NEW corporate business model will pay a living wage. And you won't need a college degree for the 80% of jobs that pay next to nothing. That 80% of worker will be trying to get the 20% of the jobs that a living.
This business plan is well on its way to completion. Weak unions, rampant conservatism, anti government forces and anti regulation are moving the US into a low wage "service economy" more and more. Most job creation has been in jobs with NO security. Keep the GOP in any kind of power and this NEW economy will by a reality. We are not there yet as a country but we are well on our way.
Right now we have a jobs crisis where there are not enough good jobs and never will be as long as the GOP and its corporate allies are concerned. Look around even if you are in a good job. Your job will be low paying next.
Competing with a global economy is nonsense because that means a low standard of living for most Americans. And it will be equal to the lowest paying countries on the planet.
