MI GOP US Senate candidate has a funding problem.
And as a former MI Secy of State, she should know better. Ed Brayton breaks it down here: http://freethoughtblogs.com/dispatches/2014/07/21/mi-senate-candidates-mysterious-3-million-gift-to-herself/#more-29145
Some excerpts:
Terri Lynn Land, former Michigan Secretary of State and now a Republican candidate to replace the retiring Sen. Carl Levin, has contributed $3 million of her own money to her campaign. The problem? According to her personal financial filings, she doesnt have that much money.
In Lands tax forms and her 2014 financial disclosure, she and her husband listed no joint assets, nor any checking account controlled by either with more than $250,000 in it. The vast majority of their considerable wealth was listed solely in his name.
Recently, Land has also made a point of noting that any assets related to her familys real estate company, Land & Co., are controlled by her husband, not her
Last week, after a Detroit News report in which Land said she had never held any ownership or management role in Land & Co. despite her being listed as an owner on earlier campaign donations of her own the Free Press reviewed Lands required federal financial disclosures.
It showed her and Hibma had assets between them worth as much as $35 million in 2014. Only about $1.5 million belonged to Land, however, with $1 million of that being the estimated value of a management company she owns with her son.
All the rest, including apartment buildings, real estate and development concerns, were listed as being solely in her husbands or a dependent childs control. The most recent report was filed May 15 of this year after she had already contributed $1.7 million to her own campaign.
As a former MI Secy of State, she should know election law. Apparently she thinks election laws do not apply to her, or apparently, the GOP.
