We knew that S.C. Gov. Nikki Haleys new book would take all sorts of artistic license, but the governors Fiction Addiction may have jumped to a higher energy level as it relates to a bizarre claim involving former Gov. Mark Sanford.
According to Haley, unidentified members of the mainstream media questioned her back in 2009 about her proximity to the sex scandal that ended the governors presidential aspirations and nearly brought down his administration.
Specifically, Haley claims that she was accused of having been in Argentina with the former governor at the time he was purportedly hiking the Appalachian Trail. This line of questioning which Haley says was initiated because her SUV was discovered in a parking space next to Sanfords SUV at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport on June 23, 2009 forced her into a humiliating position and caused her to for the first time come face-to-face with what it meant to be a woman in the (gubernatorial) race.
Theres only one problem with Haleys version of events
like virtually everything else that comes out of her mouth, it appears to be a complete and total fabrication.

She cannot stop lying.
In all the hooha about Sanford's proclivities in the wild, she was barely mentioned. I don't remember her being even remotely at the center. Her SUV was never found next to his car. Believe me, that would be easy to prove and would have made the front pages. She didn't have enough clout or powerful friends to cover it up.
She goes out of her way to put herself in the middle of that mishegas. I would want to stay as far from it as possible.
I have no idea what she is up to. I think she is a pathological liar or has some bizarre theory on how to get ahead politically. Few had any idea that she was this type of person. It is beyond weird. I think she is overtaking Alvin Greene in that respect.

She is obviously living in a complete fantasy world but forgets that some of us are paying attention.
Did no one - no editor, no proof reader, no friend - read that passage and say "waitaminute, I never heard of this. In all the 24 hour news stories at the time, all the gossip and news blogs I read, I never heard or saw one single word about this"..?

(17,111 posts)If they did, they either agreed with her or were afraid to say anything.
I gave up trying to discern any rational reason for doing this.
The only idea I could come up with is that she is aiming solely for the national audience. The MSM can't get enough of her. Only one or two reporters bother to find out what the people of SC think.
They would get an earfull negative comments from 98% of the people.
I think they want a new Palin-like person to push their ratings. They are glomming onto her in the same manner.

(17,111 posts)Haley claimed she won when she actually came in second. The other parents corrected this claim. It was easily checked.
If she wasn't known for her lying, Nikki might have gotten a pass on this. However, it just added to her bizarre proclivity to lie.
Have you heard ONE person on teevee question that account? They are too busy hanging on her every word.

Has to be a woman, and a governor, and a right wing loon (to keep the rwl base attached after etch-a-sketch starts over as a moderate). Woman because the insane base has alienated them, governor because everyone in DC is suspect,

(12,647 posts)On May 24, 2010, Will Folks, former press secretary for South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, made a claim on his blog that he had an inappropriate physical relationship with Haley "several years ago".[45] Haley has denied the claim, stating "I have been 100 percent faithful to my husband throughout our 13 years of marriage. This claim against me is categorically and totally false."[46] Folks attempted to substantiate his claim by releasing phone records that he said show 700 calls between the two while Folks was working as a political consultant for the Haley campaign.[47][48] Folks said he was "forced" to reveal the alleged affair as a preemptive measure after discovering Haley's political foes were attempting to publicize the story.[49]
On June 3, 2010, Larry Marchant, a consultant for Andre Bauer's gubernatorial campaign, made a statement alleging he and Haley had a one-time sexual encounter.[50]
In a June 2010 interview, Haley said that if she were elected governor and the claims were later validated she would resign the office.[51]
