CAITLIN MACNEAL JULY 2, 2014, 11:39 AM EDT
According to the Texas Land Commissioner, absolutely nothing gets you out of wearing cowboy boots.
Commissioner Jerry Patterson dished out sartorial advice to Austin American-Statesman columnist Ken Herman, who had cast doubt on his ability to pull off a a boot, and in doing so, Patterson panned Texas Gov. Rick Perry's (R) new look.
I lament the fact that our governor could now pass for a West Coast metrosexual and has embarrassed us all with his sartorial change of direction," Patterson wrote to the American-Statesman. Perry apparently stopped donning boots due to back problems, which Patterson said was a "feeble excuse."
"Tell Rick that boots can be purchased with normal heels," he said. Plus, Patterson said that cowboy boots are a great place to carry a knife, small gun or "a small flask, giving rise to BYIB (bring yours in boot)."

George P. Bush has won the GOP primary for Texas Land Commissioner, the Associated Press reports, defeating Republican businessman David Watts.
Bush, the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), is considered the favorite to win November's general election.
As commissioner, Bush would run the office that oversees Texas' public lands.
