AP:

Before a town hall event Thursday, Obama stopped for the cheese-stuffed burger at Matt's Bar with a woman from the Minneapolis area who wrote him a letter about struggling to make ends meet after paying the mortgage, student loans and day care bills.

The White House was billing it as the first in a series of one-on-one meetings between Obama and an American who normally wouldn't have access to a president.

Thirty-six-year-old Rebekah Erler wrote Obama in March about the plight of a middle-class family . . .

There's about two times your average monthly requirement for cholesterol in one of those things so you might not want more than a couple per year, but every once in a while you just gotta say "screw the diet."

I get my exercise - I even am growing my own vegetables this year (and I even grow my own sprouts). That doesn't mean I don't drool when I see a delicious looking burger! Healthy doesn't mean so pious one is nearly into self-flagellation. Life without the occasional burger seems a bit too stark and empty for me.

and everyone quit having bean and alfalfa sprouts. I got these lids that go on top of quart Mason Jars and grow a big batch of alfalfa sprouts when I want them. They have a lid collection for bean and other types of sprouts. I get bulk seeds and grow radish, broccoli and alfalfa and they are extremely tasty.

I can't buy them for love or for money around here, though, unless I grow them - so I do.

http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-grow-your-own-alfalfa-s-44854

Also a fun project with Mason Jars - you can regrow scallions, celery and other things

I'm regrowing romaine lettuce as a house plant since the armadillos kept tearing it up in the yard. It keeps growing back.

the cheese gets way too hot to eat. It will burn you.

But if you let it cool a bit, its oh so delicious. POTUS loves burgers. I just went to his favorite burger spot in VA last Sunday. There's also places in DC that have Obama burgers and "healthier" Michelle burgers made with turkey.

For people who like cheese, Minnesota also has cheese curds which are heavenly.

I miss Minnesota so much...

don't eat a Jucy Lucy from Matt's. In order to melt the cheese on the inside, the beef is heated to well done. They are still great to eat once in a while, but a truly juicy burger is one that is medium rare. There aren't too many places that will cook a burger medium rare anymore.

Given the health of Americans these days it's really bizarre how so many restaurants and chains now go on about all their unhealthy food. Even Subway has given up the healthy food marketing approach and changed their menu to include lots of unhealthy choices.

It's really irresponsible imo but they obviously stopped caring a long time ago.

you can make your thousand plus calorie gut bomb at home now:

. . . I don't believe he knew the President would be there.

Here's an account:

Family members say that the original owner of Matt’s Bar passed away mere hours before President Barack Obama’s visit to the long-standing Minneapolis establishment.

According to family, Matt Bristol died Thursday morning. He reportedly did not know that Obama would be visiting the Cedar Avenue restaurant.

Family members said that Bristol, who was born in 1925, was diagnosed with lung cancer nine months ago, and had only been given four to six months to live.

I'll be honest, none of the Obama family has claimed to be veg*n, so I don't see where any can point fingers nor that they did or would. From the article, it appears that Barack Obama sat down to a meal with someone with a concern and listened. Better than what we had before, probably better than we've got on deck.

Just having some fun with the Prez, just a silly jab for not eating healthy, knowing his health-conscious wife might not approve. Husband-wife stuff (which I've known intimately for 35 years) . . . worth a giggle (and some cool pics, too!).

No fault found here.

from 2010:

President Obama, in Racine, Wi. for a speech about the economy on Wednesday, stopped to buy some Kringles at a Racine bakery en route from the airport in Milwaukee. Starting a speech at a town hall meeting in Racine, Obama told the crowd, "It is great to be back home in the Midwest" and shared a secret: maybe he would on the way back to the airport,"get a brat and some cheese curds while I'm here. Just don't tell Michelle."
