While everyone in the country is outraged about Trayvon, and they should be, nobody is

paying attention to the death of Rekia Boyd who was shot in the head and killed by an off duty cop who shot into a crowd of people in a park in Chicago. He went there to tell the people to quiet down since he lived nearby, and claimed that a guy pointed a gun at him and that's who he was shooting at. Witnesses say there was no gun, just a cell phone and the guy was arrested, but only charged with a misdemeanor. We also need justice for Rekia! http://socialistworker.org/2012/04/04/chicago-cops-latest-victim

telling a crowd of people, "What do I have to do around here to get some peace, quiet and respect? Shoot someone?"

With their damned DHS-supplied "non-lethal" weapons and training, not to mention their liberal use of lethal weapons at the drop of a hat, and all pumped up on the "everybody's a terrorist" testosterone, fueled by the GWB's fearmongering ignorance, and their sworn duty to "protect and defend" the 1% at the behest of corprat AmeriKKKa in the face of the Occupy movement.

Their original "protect and serve" or "protect and defend" mantra is now "harm or kill first, ask later" - then we're all aghast when a jackass like George Zimmerman goes out and emulates them.

he's caused, which has only cultivated meanness & contempt.

It's gotten to the point where this country needs a federal task force to investigate & put the brakes on badly-run police departments.

I don't know who said it or if it was someone on DU, but it's spot on.

The culture of meanness started with Reagan & the whole trickle down economics & you're on your own. We have a hyper-individualistic society that doesn't value the broader community at all. Pair that with our everything-for-profit model, our unrelenting desire for more stuff, & a totally compromised & complicit media, & you have a recipe for a cesspool of a culture.

I don't know how we get out of this hole, because I don't know how you raise decent human beings in this culture. I'm not a parent, but to those of you who are raising decent human beings, my hat off to you. I don't know how you counter the shit that is our current culture. It must be a daily battle.

People make fun of me for having anxiety attacks and
not wanting to go out.
Really?
Can you blame me with all the shit that is going down?

I've always had this keen perception of my environment
and the people around me and lately, I REALLY don't feel
safe with all the anger vibes around.

Trayvon was walking home from the store...
Hello?
Rekia had a cell phone.
Kendic McDade was shot due to a false 911 call.
And I'm nuts for feeling anxiety on the freeways?

I really do.

I've had anxiety attacks too, and the people around you should NOT be making

fun of you about it....I once had to quit a job I liked because,

suddenly, the long commute began "scaring" me...It was not

based on any apparent "rationality"...I just started feeling

"phobic" or something while driving, and while the reasons

for this were not due ENTIRELY to a crazy-feeling social environment,

I think it can play a part.

I overcame this particular problem, btw, and If you want to know more about how

I did, and get some tips on how you might, PM me and we'll talk.

No hoodies... walk with no hoodies, add to that, don't carry a cell phone ... don't walk with a cell phone...

Don't mingle in crowds... go back to the big house and accept your reparation...
