is it ok to watch soccer while the world burns?

Is it wrong to watch football while the world's on fire? Is it wrong to love the World Cup, to get excited about a goal scored in Brazil while there's mayhem in Iraq, destruction in Syria, Russian troops massing near Ukraine?

Your Title asks if it's ok to watch soccer while the world burns but the body asks is it wrong to watch football while the world is on fire. So if I click "yes" am I saying yes it's ok to watch soccer or am I saying it is wrong to watch football?

A confirmed hockey fan, I really enjoy futbol/soccer. But then, I enjoy pitchers duels, too. I realize the pace of World Cup play doesn't suit the typical American's taste.

My Spanish is minimal, but I prefer watching games that way instead of enduring jingoistic commentary.

And besides, whenever a team scores (if they score) you get the call that made Andrés Cantor famous.

That is stupid.

Also, I'm not worried about Russian troops massing near Ukraine (if they are this week) but the U.S.-backed Ukrainian regime of neoliberal and fascist parties actually massacring people in Ukraine.

life while others suffer?

Of course it is. We do what we can to help others and we enjoy what we have and what we love... and appreciate it.

Been around more than half a century. It's never been good. Turn off the news, turn on the football, and enjoy.
