Some are attempting to censor me!

No not really...

But take a look at these:

On Thu Jun 19, 2014, 08:38 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

The Rude Pundit ought to just steer clear of sexist/homophobic
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025124066

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

If we can't say the C-word in other posts, you can't when complaining about it. Hypocrite

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Jun 19, 2014, 08:42 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: this is a discussion about the rude pundit okay. the rude pundit did use that word among others. context is everything.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This is just tit-for-tat. Don't really want to get into that game.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: It's a word I don't ever use but alerting on a post quoting the Rude One is just silly.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

On Fri Jun 20, 2014, 11:09 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

Been meaning to ask this, since it appears
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025128206

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Another divisive thread meant to stoke call outs. Just what DU needs right now. The suckage factor was running low and needed a boost

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Jun 20, 2014, 11:21 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Couldn't tell if post was about a post that was locked or cartoon thread that was locked (without doing DU archaeology). This post alone doesn't seem beyond the pale to me. Maybe ATA is the place to pose the question but doesn't work me up in GD.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: You've got to be joking. DU has been bombarded with OPs which actually have resulted in dozens of nasty insults directed at anyone who isn't completely supportive of the Rude Pundit. If this alert was on one of those OPs, it would make sense. This isn't even close to those other threads. This OP is about double standards. So this alert makes no sense.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: There is absolutely nothing wrong with the post that was alerted on. People need to get a grip.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

I'm big girl, I can handle it. I just want to know if those who are upset about alerts on other posts would feel the same way about attempts to hide my posts. I don't think that anything I wrote was disruptive, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. Do you?

FTR, for anyone who thinks I alert gobs of posts, I don't. I have never been one who is big on alerts. I do vote in juries though. Thanks to the jury for not hiding.

The 1.8-million-member Presbyterian Church (USA) voted on Thursday in favor of same-sex marriages, a General Assembly decision that will now be voted on by 172 regional presbyteries.

Thursday's vote was the result of decades of gradual progress for gay rights groups in the church who have been lobbying for this moment.

Last week with the introduction of the International Human Rights Defense Act (S. 2472), Sen. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) took a critical step toward ensuring the continued success of the United States landmark global AIDS response. The Act would establish an office within the Department of State responsible for coordinating efforts to defend the human rights of sexual minorities worldwide.

Over the last three decades we have seen the essential and inseparable role that human rights have played in prevention and treatment of HIV, the virus that leads to AIDS. In the 10 years since George W. Bush introduced the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, and the United States became the largest donor to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, this country has been the leader of those responses around the world.

6. Then there is this injustice, in which a child lost their parent.
Sat Jun 21, 2014, 09:34 AM
Jun 2014
A Pennsylvania woman died in a jail cell over the weekend while serving a 48-hour sentence for her children’s unpaid school fines. Eileen DiNino was found dead on Saturday in a Berks County jail cell where she was midway through the sentence that would have eliminated around $2,000 in fines and related court fees related to her children’s attendance at school. Police have said her death is not considered suspicious, but the cause has yet to be determined. She was 55 years old and a mother to seven children.
“This lady didn’t need to be there,” District Judge Dean Patton — who said he was “reluctant” to sentence DiNino — told the Associated Press. ”We don’t do debtors prisons anymore. That went out 100 years ago.” More than 1,600 people have been jailed in Berks County alone — the majority of them women — because of similar fines.

7. Roasted Pork Loin
Sat Jun 21, 2014, 09:42 AM
Jun 2014

Roasted Pork Loin, original recipe by Kathleen Burton
Serves 8.

Ingredients

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon dried rosemary

salt and pepper to taste

2 pounds boneless pork loin roast

1/4 cup olive oil

1/2 cup white wine

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Crush garlic with rosemary, salt and pepper, making a paste. Pierce meat with a sharp knife in several places and press the garlic paste into the openings. Rub the meat with the remaining garlic mixture and olive oil.
Place pork loin into oven, turning and basting with pan liquids. Cook until the pork is no longer pink in the center, about 1 hour. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 145 degrees F (63 degrees C). Remove roast to a platter. Heat the wine in the pan and stir to loosen browned bits of food on the bottom. Serve with pan juices.

Section I. Title
This measure shall be known and may be cited as the "California Marriage Protection Act."

Section 2. Article I. Section 7.5 is added to the California Constitution, to read:
Sec. 7.5. Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

Or

"“Let us not be naive: This is not simply a political struggle, but it is an attempt to destroy God’s plan," said the future pope. "It is not just a bill (a mere instrument) but a ‘move’ of the father of lies who seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God. We remember what God said to his people in a moment of great anguish: ‘This war is not yours, but God’s’: defend us, then, in this war of God.”

The first is the text of Prop 8. The Second are words of a man who is constantly cited on DU as the example we should hold for our Party, an anti gay, anti choice cleric who says God is at war with LGBT. People on DU promote that guy. And that never seems to get your goat at all.

Stuff folks on DU say without any 'swear words or slurs':
"Gays have plenty of rights already"
"There is only one right gays don't have and they should be ashamed'
"Gay marriage is to me, unthinkable'

One does not have to accept bigotry to converse with bigots.

Let me put it this way: I live in San Clemente, CA. I have decided to work for Dave Peiser's campaign. Peiser is running against Darrell Issa and, as of the primary a couple weeks ago, trails Issa by about 30 points.

This is coastal Orange County. The manger where Nixon was born is not far from my house. Pounding the pavement in support of removing the richest man in Congress from Congress is going to bring me face-to-face with some very, very unpleasant people. I live a few miles from Camp Pendleton; there is a risk of bodily injury that I can't ignore.

So by your logic, I should not do it.

I must do it. None of the things we want are going to happen unless we are willing to get out there and deal with some pretty disgusting people in a civil manner.

She seemed a bit paranoid that people were out there just waiting to alert on her. If she cares, I wanted her to know that I wouldn't do so, and if I were on a jury deciding on one of her posts, I wouldn't vote to hide it. reason to alert on folks they don't like to try and get off DU for a period of time.

I think admin should shorten the length of time for time out due to five hides.... FOR EVERYONE I mean, not just people I like who get time outs.

and get really angry when anyone has a problem with sexism, while they spend a lot of time in threads about sexism telling me how it ain't worth their time to discuss. Not too bright. So, that's going to narrow it down to about a dozen, right?

I would gladly sign up to be a moderator and stop some of these ignorant alerts ....for no good reason! I was alerted because I called the Fox Noise woman.. Kelly Something.. and that other one a 'blonde'. MY GAWD, you'de think that I was a blonde baby girl killer! That's just nuts. I'm agreeing with you, let's start the common sense revolution! If these alertists were to go on REDDIT for 10 minutes, their heads would explode.

I very rarely make an alert. Others will have to decide for themselves. I want the accusations that are flung at me stopped.

"Say" is a bit wide in application. The linguists like to distinguish "mention" and "use" to describe how we say a word. You are not a hypocrite if you mention the word when complaining about using it.
