(11,641 posts)The Embassy of the United States of America in Baghdad is the diplomatic mission of United States of America in the Republic of Iraq. At 4,700,000 sq ft (440,000 m2), it is the largest and most expensive embassy in the world, and is nearly as large as Vatican City.[1] Ambassador Robert S. Beecroft is currently the Chief of Mission.
The embassy complex employs 15,000 people and cost $750 million to build. The Embassy opened in January 2009 following a series of construction delays. It replaced the previous embassy, which opened July 1, 2004 in Baghdad's Green Zone in a former Palace of Saddam Hussein.[2]...

I'm not a frack fan but iirc Iraq produces 3mm bbl in the same time as we produce 9mm
this tech was not widely used back then
American ingenuity made the whole Iraq invasion a total waste. Not economic. Typical GWBush oil-related move. Expensive failure.

(26,314 posts)ordered, Everest levels of "drown the pig", huge (and rightful, sadly) increase in distrust of our government, value sulked the he'll out of the economy, fear magnified, destabilize a region, generate large numbers of hostiles, pull the rug out on any secularism and education, force the market up.
Sounds like he got EXACTLY what he was after, the "secret" underlying reasons are also red herrings. There was no actual desire to increase supply and "get that oil". They wanted to drive up the price and leverage the instability to get access to areas with means they never could and it never made sense economically but one the price could be driven up this alternative means and areas became profitable.
It isn't just Bush either, Obama is up in it too. See Libya. See the dancing around with Russia. Softer touch? Sure, up in the shenanigans? Oh yes and setting up the water choke and grab nicely while doing it. We are going to be in some deep ass shit.
